The ZM 35 is a easy conversion back to original state since the shims are right in the mount not like my ZM 25 where you have to take the lens apart. Good luck Fred. Great lens with the PCX on it

Every time my Leica Elmarit R 28/2.8 sits around for a while I think about selling it. Then, I take some pictures with it and when I see the results, I find it hard to part with it. Everything that's been said here, I very much agree with.
Wow, that is one incredibly sharp and brilliant photo. I recently got this lens too, but I haven't taken it out yet enough to really see what it could do. It's photos like this that got me to buy it in the first place.
I'm thinking of getting the Batis 25 to Match my 18
I think you'll like it a lot Guy. It's just so realiable; sharp everywhere, beautiful contrast, don't really have to think about aperture except for DOF. Nice flat field so you don't have to think about field curvature close up (I'm looking at you distagon 2/28) guess I'd prefer the ZM sunstars, but I don't mind the Batis ones. It's a lens I've come to appreciate more and more the longer I've had it. The only downside is the bokeh at mid distant background when shot at at environmental portarait distances at f 2-2.5 is a bit nervous; though I doubt if other fasting 24-5s are much different. I have found that just a little bit of Gaussian blur painted on the bokeh can tame the nervousness it without making it look fake, or increasing the amount of blur - you just have to keep it subtle.
Just left the eye doctor had to upgrade the reading and now I got driving. Age it's catching up and our eyes are just not great anymore plus i need the speed to get in focus quicker sometimes. I had this lens early in and liked it

Just back from eye doctor too! Yep reading got strengthened again. But distance vision has got better - a lot better. Apparently that's not all that unusual (might even be caused by the same thing that makes reading worse...)
Still need graduated specs though. Ah, for the carefree days with no glasses and lightning focus!

Has anybody tested the G28 with a Proxar? I still have a set of Proxars and wonder if I could use one to improve a Contax G lens like the G28.
Field curvature "compensation" of Proxar/Hoya +1 is close to 2500-3000mm plano-convex => it's going to correct field curvature/astigmatism a little but not enough. Considering that even thin filter stack e.g. Kolari v2 modified works best with 2000mm Proxar will not correct enough for modified cameras, but would be quite close.
When "undercorrecting" the remaining field curvature makes center focus closer than corners and it sucks for boke photos (and same behaviour keeps happening even closing down) and infinity shooting (can be corrected by closing down more). Therefore my preference would be to overcorrect, and doing this front-end correction is not worth if you can't compensate the Sony thick filter caused field curvature.

Ah, I see. The Proxar 1.0m is not strong enough.
Would the Proxar 0.5m be better suited for the G28 ?
Proxars and all regular close-up lenses sold by Hoya, Nikon and main photo brands are meniscus, as opposed to the PCX Optosigmas which are planoconvex elements. As far as we can tell by the testing done here, meniscus doesn’t seems to work nearly as good as planoconvex. Therefore, the consensus in this thread seems to avoid close-up lenses and get the PCXs instead.
I don’t know if the Proxar 0.5m will do better than the 1m. but in all likelihood neither will perform as well as a PCX 1.5m. Besides, with a Proxar 0.5m there’s a fair chance that you won’t be able to reach infinity with the G28. I was able to get infinity with this lens and a Hoya 1m. but not with a Hoya 0.5m.

I haven't tried 0.5m, but like said above also I doubt changes of being able to reach infinity are very small. In princible there is no reason to go use meniscus lenses; they help but for field curvature but correction is not as good as it's with plano-convex - this is not only in "amount" of field curvature correction but how it works, results are better with plano-convex lenses.
I only use meniscus lens with ZM18 because I can't see realistical way to to fit only 50mm diameter lens to it without mechanical vignetting - it might be possible with 3D-printed lens holder, but I don't have 3D-printer and I'm not interested of getting new hobbies as I don't have enough time for old hobbies...
I strongly recommend: Get the 1500mm plano-convex, and install it reverse; you will not regret it - G28 renders beautifully with this combo. Biogon boke is something special to experience. Worst thing is that ordering takes some time (can take over month). I don't feel that OptoSigma prices are expensive; to be able to use biogons with Sony camera the price is very cheap.

Looks like I cannot put the Proxars to some use here. So I might try the 1500mm lens with a to be bought G28.
Thanks Slalom, artur5, Samuli for clearifying this for me and for saving me from frustrating experiences.
Quick question - before I disassemble all the little screws on the hawks helicoid adapter, does anyone know which specific screws to loosen to adjust infinity?
