You may replace the Zeiss 49 UV filter with an empty 49mm filter but it needs to be just as thin. (I tried an empty 49mm I had and it was too thick and caused vignetting even though the other filters were thin). However, if it's too thin, it may not reach the other side of the hood where the 49-55mm step-up ring will attach to.
Aside from that, I didn't test if pushing the front-lens further away from the lens further will degrade IQ (by using an extra 49mm filter first). That's a very important test but at least there is a way to use the Zeiss OEM hood with this front-lens set-up....Show more →
Fred, if I read this correctly, the 49-55 step-up ring and the PCX lens extend beyond the end of the Zeiss hood. If so, what function is the hood serving?

Okay I just found the miracle setup. Still waiting on a blank 49mm filter. So start with a blank 49mm put on lens than put on hood. Than I went 49-52 step up than a blank 52mm . Get a deep one put 5m inside that than there is just enough thread for a 52 retaining ring. That's it.

The approach from the link above with 'thin filters' still allows me to remove the hood and add threaded ND filters or my Lee Seven5 in front of it.
However, if you are ok not adding additional filters, you may be able to get a very deep '49-52 step-up' and have enough space for retaining ring (without adding another 'blank 52'). That will probably work without any vignetting but I could not find a step-up ring deep enough...
Damn I'll try the 55 than when it comes. I'll go 49-55 than 55 ring than 55 retaining ring. I'm hoping the retaining ring will catch the lens. If not than I'll have to find some thin rings like you have. Are we Guinea pigs or what.

I'm determined to keep the hood on.
I don't think the 55mm retaining ring will work because the OptoSigma lens is 50mm but since you got it, let us know.
Off topic but I'm still looking for a 85 ZM used if anyone happens to see a black one
I picked up a used copy of the ZM 25 from B&H, which was rated 9+, honestly I was amazed at what shape it was in when I recieved it, basically brand new with no sign of usage at all, pretty happy with it.

55mm UV filter works for me. I have 46mm to 55mm step up ring, 1M Proxar, blank 55mm filter with its retaining ring. The filter is a cheappo "Green.L UV 55mm". Diameter of Proxar is 50mm same as the OptoSigma.
I got one today a 55 have not tried it yet. I ordered some thin rings. Really like to get this to 52mm as it be easier to take off with hood on. Hopefully late tomorrow I can play. Have a shoot in the morning.
