After seeing the images on this thread I had to spring for the Batis 85, from an FM'er who has posted here. Looking at them again makes me wonder about the 25. Has anyone used the 85 and 25 as a two-lens combo? My original plan was for the 85 and maybe something around 35. I am trying to move away from zooms. I have the Rokinon 14, which seems to be a good copy.

Not the 85 paired with the 25, however since October I've elected to travel with the Batis 25 and the Sony 55. I wanted a light travel kit and also to see what this primes thing would yield. I've been very happy with it.
I plan to continue with this duo, at least when it seems to suit. I do have a Baltic trip coming up later this year which will include a 2-day small group tour in St. Petersburg. Pretty sure I'm going to need my 16-35 for that, for versatility without changing lenses.
Brian
I agree with Brian; the transition from 25mm to 85mm seems to be too wide. I had my FE 55mm on a few trips to cover that gap but the difference between the 55mm and 85mm is a tad on the narrow side for my taste. The ironic thing is, if you just have 2 lenses with you, and you can be creative out when you are in the field and make the combo work regardless. Sometimes, not always, zoom lenses can make you "lazy" since it is so convenient to use.

Here are two additional images from Vegas.
Thanks for the comments about the 85-25 combination. I am going to try the 85-35 combination as it seems to make more sense but I wish there were a better 35 selection -- something better than the FE 2.8 which I'm going to try because of the size of the 1.4. I still like the looks of the Batis 25, although I'm not sure it's the best choice to have a 35 and 25 as a travel package.
I just received the Batis 85 yesterday and here is my first shot with it (already on the FE images thread).

Fantastic idea - frankly, i skip over so many photos in the 'alt' (big) thread b/c they're with lenses i would never even consider (which is fairly shallow i admit).
3 shots with Batis 18: one at f/2.8 and two at f/5.6
then, 3 shots with Batis 25 at f/8, f/2 and f/5.6

I hope I will be forgiven for posting a non-Zeiss lens shot here. Just wanted to add to the view you showed and which i recall is that of Passo Pordoi in the Dolomites where I visited in 2003. Thanks for bearing with me.
Fuji Finepix 2.3Mp. Probably shot from inside a tour bus.

Joshua you not only produce outstanding images, but you must travel constantly. Enjoy seeing your many photographs from all over the world.
Thank you, Michael! I am a retiree and I paid my dues already. So, I do have ample time for traveling and that brings along some benefits .

I had envisioned you as a suave 28 year-old world traveller with loads of photographic talent. Are you actually a suave 60 year-old world traveller with loads of photographic talent!?!
It's like phone voices - I do an amazingly poor job predicting age and looks based on phone voice. Apparently, the same is true with great photographs and their respective photographers
