I'd be sorely tempted to purchase a Batis 18, but I believe it's too big for the waist pack on my favorite camera bag, a Mindshift Rotation 22L. The waist pack will take the A7RIII body with one lens mounted and a 2nd lens, assuming a largest lens such as the 24-105, and the 2nd lens must be a bit smaller.
Denial is good for the soul (and the pocketbook!).

I fit my 24-105 with a7iii attached and the Batis 18 with a little bit of room for extras in a Tenba BYOB 9 slim, which is about the same size as your beltpack, just a little more height
Yes! And while you are at it, you may as well buy a few other Batis lenses to complete your lineup .

From a recent trip...
I already own its Batis siblings (the 18, 25, 85, and 135).....Guess buying the 40 is kind of inevitable.
How 'about vs. the 40 1.4 Nokton though? That's what I'm struggling with. I know they're very different lenses.
One comment that really stopped me in my tracks was someone noting that using the 24 GM in APS-C mode put it very nearly at 40mm with 18MP on the A7RII. I only recently (finally) received my copy of the 24 GM so I think I'd better try that trick out a bit before succumbing to GAS and buying the Batis 40.

I understand where you are coming from. And frankly, I wouldn't bother using the APS-C mode. I would rather shoot with the lens the way I envision the end result would be in full frame and crop when I see fit later on in PP. You can frame your composition conveniently and compose carefully that way.
To be honest, I sold my Batis 25mm after the GM 24 was added to my lineup. The extra stop, while often not needed, is definitely there and I do not hesitate to use that GM lens at wide open. I also love the rendition of the Nokton 40mm f/1.2 and again, the difference in aperture speed between f/1.2 and f/2 makes the difference to me. But you pay for the speed in aperture with the speed of operation of a MF lens. I understood that the close focusing capabilities of the Batis 40mm are really nice and can generate wonderful and unique images that way. That's what I missed from the Batis 25mm... Oh, well, life is full of compromises and we cannot have all the toys we would like to have, whether we use it or not .
Batis 18mm and 40mm are also on my list. I do not really need them as I have those focal lengths covered, but a good second hand copy might change my mind. Muy 25mm is second hand from a friend who had to have 24mm GM.
Two recent Batis 25mm shots using A9. First one at f/2, second at f/2.2.
