With Batis the 135mm I can stop having to crop the heck out of some of my Batis 85mm shots...although I'm sure I'll find myself cropping the heck out of some 135mm shots. Good ol' crop-friendly 42MP a7R II!

That is an awesome serpent David !!
Thank you Robert! Shooting critters is never going to be my thing, but now with the 135mm (and the awesome cropability of the 42MP a7R II sensor) I stand a chance of getting the occaisional wildlife capture.

Wow, David, what an amazing image! I had to keep on looking at it closely to convince myself that it was NOT an underwater image . Beautifully done!
Thank you Joshua! I had some fun with the night-from-day processing on that one. It did turn out to look submerged.
Just bought the Batis 25 today efter debating wether it or the Loxia 21 would be the best choice. Haven't shot more than 20-30 images or so, but jeeeez, it's good! I've never ever seen such smooth bokeh from a lens wider than 35 mm. Not even the Summicron 28/2 ASPH. It's also sharp to the very corners wide open.
The bad things are slight curvature of field and LoCA, but I can live with that.

I thought the Batis 25 had a pretty flat field?
For being a short lens on a Sony camera, yes. And it's really nothing to worry about. Just noticeable if you look for it.
Edit: Or maybe it's just increased DOF towards the corners because of mechanical vignetting. Didn't think of that.
But yes, it does have some CA. Some onion rings as well, I believe. Awesome lens otherwise.
And fringing wide open. I've never really cared about onion rings. Actually haven't seen any yet either. I wonder if it could differ between samples.

I prefer the rendering of the Loxia, but I love the lightweightness of the 25mm (and as you say, it's really good regardless). If Zeiss would just make a Batis 35mm (my greatest want), the series would be very nicely spaced from 18-135mm.

I thought about that right after seeing the results from the 25. I mean, if Zeiss can make a wide angle this good, at this speed, and this weight, it can't be that hard to make a 35/2 just as good and only marginally heavier, at the same (or lower) price. But I'd like it to be smaller. The optical cell is like 1/3 of the volume of the lens! And the focus ring placement is just unergonomic. Put it at the front, please.
