Ack! If the 12 was only 283g I would be sold!
Exactly!! This changes a lot in my decision making. I could understand Cameraquest having it wrong thinking it was still the sketchy info from months back but it's hard to imagine Voigtländer's official specs are so far off!?! Thanks Mike for that enlightening news!
First impressions:
Weight: Very similar to the 10/5.6. I did a blind test (), and could not tell them apart...So, I would not choose one over the other on weight alone.
Size: The are also very similar in length and width. Almost identical. The difference it the bigger front element on the 10/5.6 but their built-in hoods have pretty much the same length. The 10/5.6 is a tiny, tiny bit longer.
I really wish the 12/5.6 had filter threads but as you know it's not the case...
At infinity, I can confirm Mike's results with my copies. This 12/5.6 sample is indeed slightly sharper than my 10/5.6 (best of 2 copies).
I tested my 12/5.6 copy for centering and it's perfect. Kudos to Voigtlander!
The lighting is awful right now but I can easily see more resolution center mid and edges with the 12mm. However, those who want wider, 10mm is way wider.
For those wondering, I added a good copy of the 15/4.5 III (choppy-like) to the mix and it's quite a bit sharper than the other lenses. (10 and 12mm)
Fred, do you still have your FE 16-35mm? I was just wondering where that lens stands at 16mm relative to the 15mm/4.5. If you still do, could you throw that into the mix, as well, please? I know it is not quite the same FL but they are fairly close to each other focal length and aperture-wise. I am impressed with the FE lens but I haven't used it much lately after I got the Basis 18mm . Thanks!

Yes, I still have my 16-35/4 and it's a crazy good copy. Last time I tested, the extreme edges were very similar to my 15/4.5 III. It's not quite as good at mid-field but matches the prime at center.

As I mentioned in PM, if you sell that 16-35 copy, I have dibs .

Well Choppy II might just be on the block. I want just a little wider than my 15. Choppy II I removed the petals and I did a really nice job on it too. Now you can use a 58mm to a step up to any filter size your want. Right now it's setup for 58-62 with a empty filter ring for it's new hood. This is Freds copy which is perfect and the E mount. I need to get at least close to the 12mm purchase. You can PM me and I can list it on the board too. I'm a active paid buy and sell member so not trying to get around that or if you got a great 12 let me know
Fred, do you also still have your Zeiss 15/2.8 ? I wonder how it compares to the Voigtlander 15. I have the Zeiss and don't really need another 15, but GAS tells me that a small light 15 would be nice for hiking if the quality is nearly as good
I don't own any of the CV lenses in E-mount, but I am using the CV 12/5.6 in M-mount. I use it both on my Leica film cameras and on my Sony A7R with M/NEX adapter. My main usage of the 12/5.6 is indoors for ultra-wide shots. I love its tiny size and the image quality which I am getting from this lens. I never felt that I need anything wider than the 12 mm on full frame. A few examples below, all taken with the A7R and PP with the flat field plugin to improve corner performance (which is likely not needed for the 12/5.6 E-mount lens).
No issues with corner color cast of the 12/5.6 on my Leica M6 camera - same lens as above, just taken with B&W film, digitized negatives (no further corner processing needed).
Just to chime in....I had a copy of the 10 and the corners/edges were VERY soft. I returned it and haven't yet decided whether to try another. Just got back from a trip to Italy and Switzerland and my widest was the Batis 18. Sadly, I wanted wider.....
I'm intrigued far more by the 12 mm Voigtlander FE than the 10mm at this point in time, but want to hear more about the Laowa 12 2.8 before I spend another dime on an UWA.
