I'm really looking forward to this focal length. Nice stuff Fred
The focus length is new to me and surprisingly I like it very much. It's not as limiting as 85mm and a bit more compressed than 50mm. Being 1:2 macro adds to its versatility.
I usually prefer AF lenses for everything except landscapes but this lens is so sharp wide open and the manual focus feedback so precise, it's easy to nail focus every time.
I think it has great portrait rendering as well. Took a few amazing shots of my son with it already. Focus throw can be a bit steep at portrait distance but that is not limiting in most scenarios.
Great to see this lens getting increased interest and many new owners Very nice samples too. I haven't had much time to use mine for the last couple of weeks but hopefully this weekend.

That struck me immediately with the first photo you linked to (of one of your daughters, I presume):
Her eyelashes are tack sharp yet her eyebrows are mostly out of focus. And no Eye AF!
Yes, it's Gia, my daughter. It was the first image I captured with the 65/2 APO. When I saw it at 1:1, I knew this lens was special. Those eyes were in the mid-field and that was what impressed me.

In another forum far, far away (FM Canon) the big news is the TS-E refresh, including an all-new 135/4. This FL is perfect for tigher headshots and the tilt/rotate movements will bring both eyes in focus from all aspects. Does 1:2 as well. Perhaps one less reason to chase the Apo Lanthar 125.
Is the Lanthar 125/2.5 that great with today's sensors? Does anyone here own it?
The new TS-E 135/4L Macro looks very promising. Canon definitely has some nice tilt and shifts, although IMO their TS-E 17/4L needs a refresh.

I had a Canon version some 8-9 years or so ago. While excellent but I felt that the Canon 100mm f/2.8L Macro gave it a run for its money. I sold that lens shortly after getting the Canon lens. Maybe I didn't know more back then. I would have made a nice profit had I sold that lens now instead of back then .
This new APO 65mm lens macro lens is in E-mount. Definitely more desirable than an adapted lens, requiring an adapter although in the tele focal length range of the 125mm the factor of an adapter's consistency is not that bad.

I could be that 10 years ago, the lens did well with our 20MP sensors. It would be interesting to know how it performs today...But the price seems prohibiting...
I am sold on that lens..... just now waiting for the craze to die down a little before getting that. I have been spending like there is no tomorrow on photography gear lately. Scary! But frankly, I am enjoying photography way more so than let's say short 3-4 years ago. Hmmm, it doesn't have to do with Sony, does it? But it was around the same time when I started getting into the Sony mirrorless system.

Wait until you see some infinity distance comparisons with the Loxia 50/2 and Zeiss 85/4 ZM...I was very surprised!
I will try posting it today.

I noticed that you are putting both lenses on the B&S board. That tells me something loud and clear, Fred .

Yes, I know what we are going to see
My eye opener was my comparison with the FE 1.4/50.. It got smoked really badly by the CV65, the midframe of the 65mm at f2 was much better than the midframe of the Sony at f5.6.. And my Sony 1.4/50 is definitely a good sample of the lens.
Sounds right to me Jannik. The 50/1.4 ZA's achilles heel is the mid-zone at infinity. There's a noticeable drop from center. Extreme edges are great starting at f/2 though.
I didn't test them directly yet but believe they will be similar at f/2.8, except for the mid-zone.
It's remarkable how well the 65/2 performs at macro AND infinity.
