I did ask. And CPS said that they were not allowed to. Now they are going to put a new housing on my camera, and my CPS contact is trying to get me another copy because of my burden, but can't promise me anything...
The loaner functions just fine, really wish i could keep it.

** Update **
Got a call yesterday that they are replacing my camera. I had to send the box with all accessories back to CPS and they will send me a new box.
(i could also just swap the camera but to make sure everything is matching i chose to swap everything). Now i realised (yea those "ahh cr*p" moments) that the loaner didn't come with a charger so no fuel for the loaner either anymore... So i hope the new box will arrive soon...

** Update **
Replacement came today, body does not have specks on the sensor (i did spot a few dust specks @F22 though). LCD is fine now, no dead pixels on it like with my first body. Long exposure with NR off does show much less hot/stuck pixels than my first body. So i'm optimistic. Will test the body this weekend and have time to test it thourougly next week. Fingers crossed.

Several persons have suggested that the Canon 1DX Mark II has such a delicate material to cover the sensor surface that it cannot safely be cleaned by the user.
If such is the case, the product is defective by design. Then the product must be modified without fail.
Cleaning of the sensor is a routine procedure which is regularly necessary, and hence the construction must allow the user of the camera to clean the sensor by her- or himself. No compromise is possible here.

That was me, and it cost me $1700 to have fixed by Canon. And I've been cleaning my own sensors for years.

I'm not sure what you are saying here. Do you agree that YOU broke the glass on the 1dxii sensor due to your negligence and consented to pay to repair your otherwise fairly brand new 1dxii?
I wouldn't have paid for the repair. I would have immediately launched a lawsuit if they failed to make the repairs under warranty. And if they did make the repairs under warranty, I would be sure to sell the camera and be careful to never buy such a thing in the future.

I'm still not sure how important this issue is and if it can be like the 1D3 sub mirror or Samsung batteries. Fact is that this camera's sensor can be user cleaned carefully if precautions are met and it's cleanable by CPS. Only for severe stains like oil specks it needs to be sent to a specialized service facility like Germany.
Questions:
- Is this a reason not to buy the first batch?
- Will Canon redesign the sensor for next batches?
- Will Canon issue a call back and replace the sensor for free?
If so, this repair for $1700 should have been under warranty and I should hold off purchase for now.

I use Visible dust as well but have been leery to do so with Canon saying the sensor cover is a different design/material that is more sensitive then the past.

Self cleaning voids warranty when you damage the sensor. I would especially in this case only have canon clean sensors (which they can't even themselves). If CPS reps tell customers that this is a problem, it 'is' a problem. I think *knock wood* that there will follow a callback eventually. I read about these dust problems more and more lately.
I also believe that a lot of owners are pro's that don't roam on these forums and people simply don't read about it. And since the problems become a real PITA from F8 and up and a lot of sports shooters like to shoot wide open, most won't even notice until it gets really bad. I really think all cameras suffer from the same problem.

I wrote to CPS asking about the new sensor, and if the AA filter which I would presume covers the sensor is not to be cleaned. I have not had a response, and don`t think I will for some reason. There is nothing noted in the manual that says not to clean it.
I can't see how you broke the sensor cover?
How did you manage that?
If I used a gel stick on it, which would be more of a pulling on it then a wet cleaning I can't see how you would break it. Rob G... put you up to it... lol

There are more people that damaged their sensor. Ask Gust who's sensor has been damaged by an authorized repair center and another unit that couldn't be cleaned by canon in Germany. I had my 1dxII replaced and the new unit also has spots on the sensor which cannot be cleaned with a rocket blower.

Is this sensor so much different from that in the 1Dx? Never heard any complaints about cleaning that one. And I also wonder if we can expect the same from the newer sensors in other new canon bodies like the 5D4 and upcoming 6D2?
I think I will cancel my order today (with great reluctance) even though I can still apply for the free CFast / reader and I got a free warranty upgrade on this order, together worth about €600.

There may be some sort of anti-reflective coating which is more easily damaged than before, but I very much doubt that wet cleaning with care will be a problem. If you've got a really stubborn bit of dirt then clone it out (or Dust delete if shooting RAW and you can bear Canons software) until you get the chance to get CPS to clean it at their own risk.

It's been over two months and I checked some of the 1Dx2 sensor cleaning topics, all went quiet around the end of october. It looks like I'm going to settle for a 1Dx after some good thinking, for other reasons than the sensor cleaning issue (I won't benefit from most of the improvements due to my shooting habits: no video, no LV, no f/8 combo's, mostly high ISO so no need for low ISO DR etc.).
But I was just curious as to how this story continues. Is everybody happy with their sensor cleaning now or ... ?

I have no issues with cleaning my 1DX or 1DXII sensors. I have wet cleaned my 1DXII three times. My 1DX was the oil king but settled after 6months or so. My MKII is better but any high FPS body seems to get more stuff blown around in it so you have to be prepared to clean it every so often. Also I'm always changing my TCS in the field with wild abandon and fairly carelessly so I get more dust than others maybe. But the 1DX had oil issues on my copy. Not all bodies or even the majority had oil issues.

I don't think the oil splatter behavior is consistent across bodies. Mine never exhibited it even though it was in the group that needed the fix. You're probably only going to know once you start using it.
