I have used the 85mm 1.4G on the Z7 w/FTZ. It works perfectly and is much easier to hold than a D810/D850. Reviews on the 85mm 1.8 G are excellent too. I've considered it as an alternative to the 1.4G, but there's something about the 1.4 rendering that's more emotional than practical. Performance is probably similar at smaller stops such as f/4, f5.6. Both will give you great portraits.

I agree with johnld on this, there's this little "something" about the 85 f/1.4 G's rendering that makes it more desirable IMHO.
Regarding the f/1.8, are you aware there's a 85mm f/1.8 S on the roadmap for the near future? I'd probably wait for that one if it was for the Z.
