It will be interesting to see what the cost and what would need to be done to modify the original Cambo Actus Mini camera to this version of the camera and to see if both the GFX can be swapped back and forth with/for my A7r cameras. It is possible that the camera standard may not allow for that however.

Comparing the photo with the front standard of my Cambo Actus it looks doable at least for the most part to the new version of the camera for the GFX. However, looking at the camera standard of the original versus the new version of the camera, the modification looks to be expensive.

The GFX version:

The original version:

I just received an e-mail from Cambo about the new version of the camera and here is the link to the Cambo website about the camera:

Thanks Charles. I am going to wait a bit to see some sample images with the 32-64mm. My main use for this camera would be for WA landscape type shooting. One of my challenges will be to find a wide angle zoom (or primes) to replace my often used 16-35mm range...

I am in no immediate rush either at this price level, and I really want to see how the GFX sits in my hands, the feel and ease of using it in normal shoots.

Hi Gary,

I have the camera on order and I have two wide/ultra wide primes that I plan to use with it. I expect both to be excellent, but we will see. They are the Hasselblad HCD 24 f/4.8 (about a 19 or 20mm FF 35mm equivalent) and a Hasselblad CFE 40 f/4 IF (which is about a 30 or so FF 35mm equivalent). Neither is cheap, in fact they both a very expensive and quite a bit more than almost all the other lenses I am getting. Wide angle is a bit of a challenge for this format as it is a crop of medium format and lens made for medium format are hard to find wide enough. I have hope these two will be excellent, however. Later this year Fuji will release a 23mm f/4, but there is a pretty big gap in native lenses between that 23mm and the 45mm which has also been announced. I is likely to be well into next year before a native lens to fill that gap arrives, which is why I got the Hassy 40mm. I suspect many may use 35mm tilt/shift lenses that may be great options, but again we will have to see exactly how they perform.

Hey Steve. Really looking forward to seeing your results. I only shot the camera for around 15mins at the launch event but really liked it.

This afternoon I visited my friend Ryan at DigiDirect in Brisbane and had a chance to play with the GFX and 63mm lens for about 1 hour.

The GFX feels surprisingly small and light with the 63mm without the EVF. Size and feel I would compare it with the Nikon D750. Ergonomically it is superb and taking shots it just flows. Of course I have the XT2 bodies so it is a natural extension of what I am accustomed to. The AF AF-S is very fast and accurate and you have the full screen to move the AF point around to. I did not test the AF-C as there was not enough time.

Personally within this short period of time I fell in love with this camera !!! For me it is a must have. I would be very happy just to have the GFX body without the EVF and just the 63mm lens. This is easy for choice, as I prefer the 50mm FL. The lens rendering feels very much like the 50 Cron Asph. To be honest I would love to take the GFX/63mm for street portraits as it feels a very "cool" camera to approach people. My other favourite was the M240 50 Lux/50 Noct f/1.0.

This is the STD Jpeg profile, but for portraits I prefer the look of the Chrome as the colours are more subtle.

In reviewing the shots it appears that shutter shock is not an issue, as I had taken a number of shots at 1/50s which ideally I would have set to 1/125s.

I have both RAW and Jpegs, so I am waiting for an update in either Lr/PS or C1Pro to push the RAW files.

Some test shots inside and outside the store with Jpegs.

I have post processed the Jpegs to give a more Chrome like look from the STD profile. The STD profile for portraits can be too strong in the reds and can highlight blemishes.

Shots from the GFX at 12,800 ISO OOC Jpegs. I would expect the RAW files to be excellent with virtually no noise.

Thanks for these excellent initial pictures, Charles. Since I prefer to work with a flip-up screen, I'd certainly be happy to start with the GFX body and 63mm lens without the EVF, as you suggested in an earlier post. I recall other members expressing surprise/concern/disappointment about the gap between the announced 23/4 and the 45/2.8 lenses. I'd be reluctant to commit to the system until a 35mm GF lens was announced. Together with the 63/2.8 and the 110/2, a 35mm would yield a lens set nearly equivalent to a 28/50/90 full frame trio.

Thank you and you are welcome I do understand the reluctance why some will wait for the other lenses before committing. Personally I feel very comfortable with Fuji's commitment and philosophy, so I believe in the timeline of the introduction for the lenses. I do suspect the GFX will be very popular, and it is likely to exceeds Fuji's expectations. The 23/4, 63/2.8 and 110/2 will make for a great trio

Yes that will make a good trio and I expect that a 35mm will be among the next set of lenses announced. Fuji did such a good job in the roll out of the x series lenses, I have some faith that they will do the sensible thing here. I do have one niggle, however, and it is most obvious with the 63. I wish they were calibrating the focal lengths to FF 35mm using the 4 X 3 aspect ratio instead of the diagonal. Using the diagonal they are 28, 50, and 87, but using the 4 X 3 aspect ratio they are the not so nifty 26, 46, and 80. As I will probably shoot the majority of the time 4 x 3 or squarer I would actually prefer a 40, 70, 120 trio, which have FF 35mm equivalents of 29, 51, & 88 if shooting 4 X 3 or squarer. I know this isn't a big deal as what Fuji has designed will not be that far off, but it is a niggle. I know in particular I would have a slight preference for a 70, which would be just a bit longer than a 50mm equivalent (like most 50s for 35mm) when using the native 4 X 3 ratio.

These choices for native lenses mean less to me that most, because I am not even sure if I will get any of the native lenses. I am going to start out with all adapted lenses, and with that in mind, genji, would you settle for an adapted Pentax 645 35 f/3.5 A. It is both fairly inexpensive and very highly regarded among Pentax shooter. I am pretty sure you could pick one up and use it until Fuji makes a 35 and then sell it with very little out of pocket cost. You could also consider the Zeiss C/Y, Olympus OM, and Canon FD 35mm shift lenses as they all should cover the image circle quite well and be adaptable to the camera. Again I think you could buy any of these and sell them when Fuji comes out with a 35 with very little cost.

FWIW, I went to the local demo day last week, and the Fuji rep told me that the 23mm will be release late Spring.

I echo Charles' first impressions - not too small, light, yet solid.

For those interested in the Fujifilm GFX and the new Cambo Actus GFX:

http://www.getdpi.com/forum/medium-format-systems-and-digital-backs/61065-new-cambo-actus-dedicated-fuji-gfx.html

For those using the original Cambo Actus Mini the camera will able to be modifed and for those using the Sony A7 and other cameras with the Cambo Actus, there will be an interchangeable part for the Fujifilm GFX camera body on the standard so that you will be able to easily and quickly swap cameras.

To upgrade from the original Cambo Actus Mini to the Cambo Actus GFX will have a MSRP of $1345 for the ACB-980 upgrade kit.

Yikes, that is pretty high cost, but I really like the Cambo Actus products. I am glad they gave me a heads up that this was coming and I can just get the Actus GFX and interchangeable mount bracket. I am really looking forward to getting this set up. Thanks for the advice on this Rich.

Hi Steve,

The reason that the price is so high is that basically all that you are going to use from the original Cambo Actus Mini is the bottom rail and the bellows I believe. Both the front and rear standards with all of the swings, tilts, shifts, rise, fall, etc. are replaced (the rear standard is also much more involved with the additional locks, adjustments and the interchangeable Camera mount). So, not much of the original camera is being used. But unless I am mistaken the part that will be available to swap out to other camera mounts will take the Sony A7 or other mounts so that would also be taken from the original camera.

I am still going to be on the fence about the GFX and if I will be able to afford it plus the the upgrade to to the Cambo Actus Mini due to our cost of living costs which are now largely fixed income with a lot of medical bills, etc. that I pay for both of us. I will also wait for the release of the Sony A7rIII and to see how it will perform in comparison with the Fujifilm GFX.

Rich
