The price of the GFX body is likely 6499, and with lens 8000

This definitely is in the realm of the top end DSLR's.

Wow - super reasonable and lower than I thought. Hmmmm...

I paid almost $6500 for my new Nikon D3s. This seems to blow that camera (and it's replacements) away. I am most anxious to hold it!! Unfortunately, it ships the day I get back from winter Yosimite trip - that would have been a great place to try it out. My friend has the Phase One - would have liked to compared the results. Oh well - better late than never?!

Totally different cameras. Don't see one blowing away the other. I'd find it a bit awkward shooting night football or going on Safari with the Fuji.

IMHO Fujifilm has set itself up for a total folly. How many hobbyists will likely upgrade to the so-called Medium Format?

Sorry, I was so loose with words before. I have seen the detail in 50/100mp medium format cameras and it is stunning. That is what I was referring to when I wrote, "blow away". Sorry friends!

If you read annual reports of all camera makers, you will discover a common fact that is to stay float all camera makers have to grab hobbyist market segment aggressively.

Who is Leica selling to? Clearly there are hobbyists who are willing to spend some money.

Clearly there is a sizable market for the GFX which would be ideal, as I am sure the production levels of the GFX will be much less than that for the XT2/XPro2.

Thanks for the update Charles. I would just like to add one bit about the crop factor. The .79X crop factor is comparing the 3 X 2 format of the a FF 35mm sensor with the 4 X 3 format of the new camera by measuring the diagonal. In many situations, however, what you are shooting will determine the aspect ratio you want to use. This means that the crop factor will be different for squarer crops vs. more rectangular crops. For crops that are 4 X 3 or squarer the crop factor is .73X and for crops that are 3 X 2 or a skinnier rectangle the crop factor is .82X. One of the reason I really like a 4 X 3 sensor is that I often crop squarer and thus throw away quite a bit on the ends of my shots with a 3 X 2 sensor. On such shots the bigger sensor will get you almost a full stop (.9 of a stop) less depth of field than a FF 35mm sensor at the same aperture and the decreased noise advantage of the big sensor will be more noticeable too. In contrast for shots composed and cropped for a skinnier rectangle the 4 X 3 sensor will be throwing away more of the capture image. On such shots the larger sensor will only get you about a half of a stop (almost exactly) less depth of field than a FF 35mm sensor and the noise advantage will be less noticeable. So the best aspect ratio for the shot will make a pretty big difference in how much the bigger sensor will be an improvement over a FF 35mm sensor.

It might not be accurate but to make it simple for myself I just compare the longest sides of the sensors when determining the crop factor so 36/44 is what I use for this sensor compared to FF.

And yet there will still be threads about how the GFX doesn't track leaping gazelle properly and aonother about how without a 600mm equivalent it isn't a complete system. Just wait for the first thread titled "GFX for BIF??"

Do you guys think Fuji will have much less dedication towards their APS-C line with the medium format being released?

That will get you the .82X crop and will work well if you shoot primarily aspect ratios of 3 X 2 and skinnier rectangles. It will be somewhat misleading when you want a squarer aspect ratio, however.

Hi Dave. No, Fuji are trying encompass both sides of the 35mm FF divide. APS-C for 80 to 85% of their market, with a smaller select group of photographers with the GFX. Many photographers will have a choice then whether to opt for FF DSLR's/Mirrorless or the similar sized GFX

In hindsight it turns out a good thing Fujifilm skipped 35mm. Now they have a system that's much more portable and one with measurably higher image quality. Compelling.
