This will be a fun system and good back up for S. I can see many people buy into it in this forum as well. Fuji is good company
Some R lenses have larger then FF image circles.
And there are a few fellows who re-house R glass so they'll work on crop 645 cameras. Would be good to look into if the design of the Fuji body will allow for adapting lenses..

Mixed feelings on this - I work a lot on location so on one hand I love the the leaf shutters and Nikon CLS comparability on the Hasselblad which opens up a lot of flash creativity. However, if Fuji can manage the overall size of the system (including lenses) with a mirrorless shutter...I guess I can live with using ND filters.

I'm well aware of this rumour.. And what Leica has said. I just don't believe it, way to coincidental for the SL sensor and the A7II sensor to share the EXACT same colors and other characteristics. But whatever, I don't really care all that much anymore... More interested in Fuji's MFD lens lineup. I'm cool with the 50mp Sony sensor, I've seen some great shots using that sensor. And I'm sure Fuji will tweak it in a pleasing way.
My A7II and SL most certainly don't have the exact same colour. In fact I was just having a discussion with a friend where we were discussing how it was so much easier to have the SL files processed to match his Canon files whereas the A72 was so much more difficult to get even close. DXO Mark also disagrees that they're the same with low light sensitivity quite different between the two.
If it weren't for the colours of the Sony, which I really don't like for portraits, I may have not bought the SL.

Price doesn't matter when you count mirrorless FF manufacturers, only when you make purchasing decisions.

Of course you are right, forgot about that one. But again, the price does not make it accessible. Leica is Leica, is all I am saying. I'm glad they are around, because they are the only company whose feature set isn't dictated by Sony.

How about an adaptor for XPan lenses? More than a big enough image circle. And they're Fujinon lenses already.

I spend two separate days trying to see differences in these two bodies. In the end there are two difference. The Sony needed +5 to saturation and if I remember correctly it was consistently cooler with it's Auto WB setting and had a slightly different tint setting. Also needed +10 to contrast (but I'm going from memory now).
I think the contrast and the saturation were due to one of my 50APO lenses being slightly less saturated and contrasty than the other. This is something I've noticed while shooting the two lenses side by side on two M cameras. So in essence the colours from both cameras were almost imperceivable.
I've done this test twice now. On two not so similar days (light quality wise) and with two different friends. Both who believed that my SL would somehow come out on top.
In both these tests I also shot under and overexposed files and manipulated them with similar results. I would say human error created more differences then the cameras.
Both these tests were done before Leica updated the SL firmware. I have not done any testing since..
Had I done these tests before buying the SL, I most certainly would not have bought the SL despite the SLs ergonomics, I'm not a fan of the sensor one bit. MUCH prefer the M240/M240-P sensor and much much prefer the S-006 sensor.

For this work, a silent shutter (which I am sure Fuji will have; all their latest bodies do) can be immensely helpful, too. I assume that if this comes to be, then leaf-shutter lenses will come, eventually. Sure makes using flash easier. I used to shoot a lot of on-location work; Leica film bodies came the closest to silent in those long-ago days!

I have the Leica SL and used to have the Sony. I just recently got rid of the entire Sony system. The colors of both systems are totally different. I am not sure but something very wrong with your monitor if you believe they are the same.
I am interested in the Fuji to see if its a good back up as I really love the skin tone produced by Fuji.

Or maybe the cost of the SL had an effect on your brains ability to see something special that doesn't exist? It's a known issue, it happens to people all the time :P
Jokes aside, like I said, I haven't run tests since the firmware in the SL was updated. I ran the tests on launch firmware. I don't know how much the colors have chanced since then (though they have, especially the jpgs). Honestly, I rarely use the SL. And I don't care to organise a day for testing it yet again (since I've done it twice). Also I sold my backup 50APO (as I'm exiting Leica), so running the tests again would annoy me as it wouldn't be as fluid as when I had two of the same lens.
The Fuji X-T2 is really quite nice. It's a modern sensor with a very distinct Fuji look. So I reckon Fuji will be able to adjust the MFD sensor to suit their needs. As in, to give that very nice Fuji color profile. Interesting point, I'm not sure if one buys a MFD camera to shoot JPG files.. But I bet the Fuji MFD will have killer JPG files

Lol, Leica SL is not the most expensive camera available. I also have the Leica S typ 007. So affordability and monetary value clouding opinion is not happening to me. I am not going to derail the thread. Back to Fuji, I am not talking about Jpeg. Fuji files (raw) that I have played with have nice skin tones and very easy to process. Maybe you are used to Jpegs but if you spend some time to play with raw files and create custom color profiles you can better appreciate the color differences

Another FYI: Panasonic and Fujifilm have been partnered on a sensor design they call the 'organic sensor'. It's been mostly an R&D project but they've announced they've got something; at least a prototype working. Very interesting technology.
Such a sensor requires a factory that has yet to be built, as Sony will not allow the process at their facilities. No current factory will suffice. This means, because of corporate statements, a massive 300-500 million dollar expenditure.
You will know of this, because they are public companies, years in advance of production.
In other words, its 3 years away, minimum, and a lot of fanfare would surround the groundbreaking of such a factory.

Ok your colour opinion no longer matters since you've copped to owning an S-007.
And BTW what's RAW? Are those the files I need a special program to open?

The Leica SL color is drastically different from Sony's, or anyone's, really. Everyone's camera (not just sensor) has completely different color. Then add in the differences between lenses, and colors start taking on an a highly nuanced differences.
Shoot, even until the 1980's, lenses within the same family would have differences between them. Minolta's launch of their autofocus lineup is a good example of a concerted effort to achieve the same color look across a lineup.

And are you kidding about RAWs?
Since Adam's gone to bed I jump in
It's not an abbreviation, it's a word so it should be typed raw.
