Gorgeous shot - and perfect foreground. I think what Artur is talking about is how it seems there is a faint GND line on the upper mountains. From your explanation it sounds like you did a manual HDR blend with your pano. I would go back into that upper section and brighten the tops of the mountains just a bit, although I can see you wouldn't want to touch the sky much or you'll blow out the clouds on the right.

Very nice Dave! Please tell me you are going to print this one. Must have been a great experience with that view.

Great shot. What a contrast! The wild flowers and the cold hard ice in the same scene. Well done.

Cheers,

Outstanding depth, contrast and color in your wonderful composition. The foreground of rocks and flowering plants truly enhances the overall glacier scene in the distance.

Dave,
Lower half of the image seems to be too bright to me compared to the rest. This is blocking the flow and stopping the viewer at the bottom of the image. It almost feels like there was graduated filter used to darken the upper half. I would try to darken from half down and I would brighten the right upper corner a little. This is just my opinion and yours can be totally different.
It is a great image anyway.

Hi Dave,

This is a wonderful vision of this place. I'll second what Artur said. I'd like to see some more range of tonality in the lower two thirds of the image. It seems a bit too bright given the rest of the scene. However, I have a tendency to process my own photos too dark for many people's preferences.

Dear All,

Thanks again for taking the time to comment and critique. I truly value all your comments.

Also thank you ArturS for coming back with further clarification to your earlier comments. That was most helpful!

Instead of amending the existing file, which was a 'back at camp' production on my laptop, I totally reworked everything on my home computer. On the laptop I did a LR photo merge HDR of all my bracket shots, which really brightened the foreground. This time I manually blended everything and changed the pano perspective to cylindrical.

I'm happier with the results - which once again reiterates the value of the FM community!

Dave

This is the first I have seen of this post, and I must start by stating I am nothing more than a casual amateur, but....

I really don't get al the enthusiasm over the original posted mage, which looks way over-saturated, over-processed and totally un-realistic (IMHO).

Now, my monitor may need re-cal, but the second image looks 200% better. It has a more natural look to it. Not saying it's perfect (I'm not qualified to judge), but it's way better than the first one!

I like em both. 2nd looks more realistic, but not as intense. I'm sure the first would print better - like I said before I'd stick with the foreground in the first and lighten up the top a bit instead of darkening the foreground. In any event a wonderful scene well composed.

I'm not sure about totally unrealistic and 200% better - as well watered alpine flowers and scenery are intensely saturated in all their glory - but nevertheless I do take your point on saturation. I don't think I ever added any saturation but don't think I ever took away any either. In any case the pic below is the original pic slightly desaturated.

Thanks Jim. I believe printing usually requires a brighter/crispier file. However, I took your suggestion and with a slight overall desaturation, so its not as intense and lightened mountains in background - posted below. Thanks again for your comment!

Dave, I've gotten comments similar to kajat's from my brother in-law who spends most all his time in the city and has never hiked to view a pristine natural scene like this far from the haze and pollution that makes everything looks desaturated except the neon signs.
