I've been giving the TAP a workout for about a week with my ZM 35 1.4 while wandering Budapest, Austria and Germany, and either I have a bad copy or else for me it's terribly underwhelming. It only works the AF-C, flexible-M on my A7Rii about 20% of the time where I see the little moving green boxes. Other times I hear the motor working but I'm seeing nothing telling me it is focusing, and other times there's neither any sound nor little green boxes. On the brighter side however, I'm getting better with and enjoy using manual focus on this lens. The good news is that my lens is tack razor sharp when in focus, but the bad news is that TAP just isn't cutting it for me. So my question is whether this is normal behavior for TAP or if I have a defective one or am I not using it properly?

Not that I can recall, no.
Adapter has been sent to Techart since, spare appears to be holding up so far.

It's done well with most of the lenses I've used on the A6300/A6500, but those are different cameras. I do have one 15mm lens that performs poorly. Have you tried it with other lenses and updated to the latest firmware via the iOS or Android app?

The only time I've encountered this with my ZM 35 is when I've manually focused closer to properly deploy the floating elements, and then forgotten to return it to infinity focus when aiming at something further away. John

I use generic adapter of Nikon G to EOS, and stack it with EOS to LM.
So far those stacked adapters did the job well with TAP

Thanks for the reply. Subsequent to my post, I found that the Leicaist Nikon G adapter now sold on the TAP site also works.

You may be using too small of an aperture. My experience has been that depending on the available light the TAP starts hunting and becomes progressively less responsive from f/2.8 and down. It's not a low light performer. That's why I have a button programmed to take me quickly to manual focus mode.

I had this problem opened all the way up at 1.4

So it wasn't a low light issue. I have some lenses that just don't work well with the TAP. Your 1.4/35 may just fall into that category.

apparently I'm the only one. There's a whole thread on the ZM 35 1.4 where everyone reports how well that lens operates with the TAP.

I am waiting for the delivery of the Techart PRO, which is taking longer than expected because of the Chinese New Year Holiday

One of the main reasons I finally pulled the trigger is I hope to solve a problem I have with the Contax C/Y 35-70/3.4 when using it on a tripod and a polarizer ... given the push-pull / rotating-front-element nature of the lens it is a PITA to achieve perfect focus AND fine tune the polarizing effect WHILE preserving a carefully selected framing.

I plan on focusing at f/3.4 with the polarizer in place: do you think the Techart will be able to focus in this scenario?

I don't have the lens and haven't tried the TAP with a zoom lens (I'm really a prime lens kind of guy) but the one insight I can provide is the TAP works a lot better with a lot of light and often gives me problems when I get below f/2.8 so shooting the zoom at f/3.5 might be a problem.

are you pre-focused passed your subject? TAP may not have enough movement depending on where you're pre-focused. I use mainly the rokinon 85f1.4 and whenever I run into focus issues, that's usually the case. I've also tried TAP with an OM 24 f2.8 and 200 f5, both seem to work fine.

by it's nature, you kind of have to fiddle with prefocus settings of the lens for TAP to work. you can try updating firmware if not done already.

It isn't posted on the Techart Pro webpage yet but there is a version 5 update to the TAP app. It is shown in the cellphone download app.

It downloaded and installed just fine. My A7II works well with it. I just don't know yet exactly what it is meant to correct/improve.

Except, according to many who have installed it, the battery drain issue doesn't appear to have been "fixed".
