Thanks Fred, really appreciate the response. Buggy, but at least a solution.

Exactly. If you put a fresh battery and turn the camera off, there will be no drainage.
Alternately, if you have been using the camera and turn it off, drainage will occur UNLESS you remove the battery and re-insert it.
Somehow, physically removing the battery and re-insterting it completely cuts the connection with the adapter when the camera is in "off" position.

It should have disappeared with firmware 4. Got my 7II with the T and Elmarit 28 since 3 days on 100%. Turned it on and off several times.

Unfortunately it didn't. If you insert a fresh battery at 100%, it will indeed remain at 100%.
However, when using the camera for a while and then turning it off without doing what I described above, the battery will drain.

Fred do you need to remove and reinsert the battery every time you turn the camera off while the TechArt is attached? Or only once for every time you mount the TechArt?

Oh, I see. Yes, indeed it was fresh charged battery and didn't take a shot but only switched the cam on and off.

There's supposedly two adapters in stock on Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01H7JTR3M/ref=pe_1843280_207996130_em_1p_0_ti

What firmware version are the latest Amazon/Cameraquest adapters shipping with?

It seems to be the case David. It's indeed annoying but at least they may be able to replicate it and hopefully fix it.

I just got mine yesterday from Amazon. It had firmware 3. It was a cinch to update to 4, after reading this great thread, although it took about 15 minutes with my Android phone, via bluetooth.

I have scads of Nikon lenses, hoping the Fotodiox adapter I ordered Nikon to Leica LM will work with my 200-400 f4?

So far the Techart Pro is working great with Summilux 35 and Chron 75!

Not sure how well that Nikon 200-400/4 will work. It's big, weighs seven pounds, has no aperture ring, and uses internal focus.

Trying to make that work might be the definition of glutton for punishment. Or unyielding dedication.

Actually it should work. It did with my 7-pound 200/1.8L.
You will shoot always wide open and need to support the lens when using it. (Tripod or hand)

The Nikon 200-400/4 is a G-type lens, if I'm not mistaken. Then you need a Nikon G to Leica M adapter that can control the aperture mechanically.

Not sure I would put a lens like that on the TAP although could handle it just not sure it's worth it. But that's me

Thanks, everyone! I guess it really depends on the lens too. I was using a 35mm Summicron ASPH.

Now that I know it's normal, I can stop stressing over it thinking I have a bad copy or something.

I've come to the conclusion that though the TAP is wonderful with longer focal lengths (I've tried 16mm and longer) a manual adapter where I can adjust focus manually to nail infinity when the lens is set to infinity, is easier to use with the VM 10mm. The depth of field is so big, that autofocus is difficult on the TAP except under really good conditions, and you hardly need it anyway.

I did a quick analysis of before/after the 4.0 firmware update. Definitely liking the latest release as far as perceptual speed and the way it locks focus. Seems a bit more "assured" now.

Do you need to cradle the lens and let the camera move in and out? Is the 200/1.8L name internal focus lens? If so, any comments on performance when treating one a unit focusing lens on the TAP?

It's just an option for owners of discontinued AF lenses with unrepairable focusing units. It won't put any strain on TAP since it will be moving the camera instead of the lens.
