BTW, you need 3 buttons to control IBIS without using the camera menu.
I described that further up this thread.

K-H.

Alternatively, if you wish/need to use the buttons for other options, you can assign the three menu items that control IBIS (SteadyShot / SteadyShot Adjust. / SteadyS. Focal Len.) to the Fn button. Definitely not as fast (or elegant) as assigning them to actual buttons as you suggested earlier in the thread but certainly preferable to wading through the main camera menus.

The most important button for me is the trashcan.
When in menu it toggles explanations ON or OFF.
I find that extremely helpful making sense of the menu system.

Another battery report - Freshly charged battery in the camera for ~24h, with zero drain as of this morning.
Same battery that experienced high drain rate previously.

Lens appears a bit heavy though, no?

Hey guys,

Been eagerly following the thread here--the TAP is a crazy. Just a couple questions:

1) some pages back, someone tried a ZA 135 but aside from weight there was a pre-focusing issue? I porentially would like to use a ZA 85 or Mino 85 limited? They are just at the weight limit, but AF will be good? Will I need to pre-focus? I also read here the r 80 needed some similar adjustment.

2) Anyone try the Pentax 31 or 77 limited? The TAP could have just saved me a foray with the K-1

3) How is AF on heavier CY lenses? I have a CY 35 1.4 and could repurchase the 100 f2

Thanks--this adapter is crazy.

Nehemiah,

I'll let you know how TAP works in a few days with the C/Y 100/2 I bought from you! Should have the adapter in hand on Friday.

Thx,
Darrell

From my experience, the adapter's suggested maximum lens weight of 700g is for when it's moving lenses without any support.
If you support a lens with your hand and let the adapter do the focusing, the weight limit is pretty much unlimited.
I was able to handhold my Canon 200/1.8L (6.6 pounds), CY 100-300 (950g) and other heavy lenses without any issues since most of the weight is transferred to your camera instead of the lens.

At 50mm or shorter focal lengths, you may just set your lens to infinity and the adapter will focus pretty much at all distances without any changes to the focusing ring as long as your lens does not have FLE and you are not focusing at MFD.

Above 50mm, a rough pre-focus may be required for the adapter to achieve focus.

Great, thanks for the info Fred. I don't understand how the mechanics of the adapter work...but do heavier lenses focus slower I am assuming?

Yes my ZM 85 is slower than my ZM 35 for instance not a ton but rule of thumb longer is slower as its moving more weight typically.

I envy you that have recieved your TAP. Ordered mine from TAP directly, and I'm on my 4th (5th?) week now. Still no shipping confirmation and no / sporadic reply when contacting them.

First thing I thought when I saw it...but it really would depend on how the aperture is set up on the lens...because I thought I read they are electric apertures.

The other consideration here is that the longer the focal length, the greater the amount of movement required to shift focus. Most simple lenses typically sit at a distance from the sensor equal to their focal length, and twice their focal length when focused at 1:1. As a consequence the distance required to alter focus through a normal range on say a 21 mm wide angle is roughly about a fifth of that required to alter the focus by the same amount on a 100 mm lens.

Given that the TAP has only a limited range of movement (4.5 mm) it is able to give a much greater change in focus for wide angle lenses than longer lenses - on the latter it simply runs out of movement. However, by using the lenses own manual focus you can put into the approximate zone of sharp focus, the 4.5 mm of movement provided by the TAP will then generally work very fast to adjust the focus. Using this combination of manual pre-focus and the TAP, I've been achieving great success even with a Canon FD 300 L, provided that I support the lens and camera in different hands in a relaxed way that allows the two to easily move relative to each other. My Leica Elmarit 90 is very easy to use, and my hit-rate of sharp focus with my CV 180 has gone from probably 20% acceptable to 20% reject.
