Hey guys,
Been eagerly following the thread here--the TAP is a crazy. Just a couple questions:
1) some pages back, someone tried a ZA 135 but aside from weight there was a pre-focusing issue? I porentially would like to use a ZA 85 or Mino 85 limited? They are just at the weight limit, but AF will be good? Will I need to pre-focus? I also read here the r 80 needed some similar adjustment.
2) Anyone try the Pentax 31 or 77 limited? The TAP could have just saved me a foray with the K-1
3) How is AF on heavier CY lenses? I have a CY 35 1.4 and could repurchase the 100 f2
Thanks--this adapter is crazy....Show more →
From my experience, the adapter's suggested maximum lens weight of 700g is for when it's moving lenses without any support.
If you support a lens with your hand and let the adapter do the focusing, the weight limit is pretty much unlimited.
I was able to handhold my Canon 200/1.8L (6.6 pounds), CY 100-300 (950g) and other heavy lenses without any issues since most of the weight is transferred to your camera instead of the lens.
At 50mm or shorter focal lengths, you may just set your lens to infinity and the adapter will focus pretty much at all distances without any changes to the focusing ring as long as your lens does not have FLE and you are not focusing at MFD.
Above 50mm, a rough pre-focus may be required for the adapter to achieve focus.
