The 50mm f1.4 Planar is the forgotten gem in the lineup. As much as I love my 50mm f1.2 GM and how it renders bokeh it I don't think it makes subjects pop as much as the Planar does.
One day i'll shoot them side by side at f1.4 to see if my perception is reality โบ๏ธ๐ท I do remember however seeing images from the Planar on a beginners course I took around 9 years ago and I was drawn to them immediately, they really drew me with how lifelike and how much the subjects stood out.
What I would give for a lens that combined the 3d pop of the Planar but with the sharpness and bokeh of the 50mm f1.2 GM ๐๐พโฅ๏ธ
I think the ZA 50/1.4 also has a degree of color, contrast and dimensionality that the GM lenses lack. On purely pictorial and subjective level, I strongly prefer ZA. Iโm sure by optical correction measures, the GMโs are better.
I no longer have my copy as I donโt shoot digital as much anymore and strongly dislike large lenses. But those files just have something most modern glass simply lacks IMO
