I gotta give major props to everyone who contributed pictures to this thread. I got my lens today and boy is it hard to nail focus. Ive settled to af c and shooting a 2 or 3 shot burst to get a keeper.

Keep up the great work everyone people are watching lol.

I am also using back focus button via AF-C single, no delay on my D810. Having only received my lens yesterday this is the first lens I have where there is no fine tune AF correction needed. My 58/1.4 is +18 on the D810 an +15 on the D750. I do think is important to use the centre point as this seems more accurate rather the peripheral ones. I have no problems with the lens center focus and recompose at f/1.4 at 2m, rather than moving the AF point. I don't mind either method. The DOF is very narrow, so it is important to find the appropriate contrast for the AF point, in low light.

Lance, superb shots of the Kestral !!! Amazing captures

I have been watching this thread and could not wait any longer to have this lens in my bag.
The lens arrived this afternoon, and I am only now appreciating how extraordinary this lens is

Some quick shots around the house before the sun went down.

Thank you very much I have had the 50L, 85L II, Batis 85, Sony GM 85 and ZA 135/1.8. I feel the Nikon 105/1.4 is very much like the ZA 135/1.8 lens in how it draws colors from nowhere. I personally feel this is one of the best portraits lenses I have owned

This morning I was at Anderson Nikon camera repair centre in Brisbane to have my D810 repaired, and this is a shot with the D750 and 105 of Mark the manager. This is first shot with no fine tune AF correction on the D750 after having spent a day on the D810. I am convinced this lens renders differently with the D750 sensor. I am almost preferring the rendering with the 105 on the D750 ?

Great photos everyone! Could somebody do me a favor and post some stopped down (*ghasp* ) photos please, maybe some around f/2.8 and f/4, maybe even at f/5.6? At f/1.4 the 3D-ness of the pictures is very striking, I'd like to see how strong the effect is when stopped down. Preferrably portraits, if you have - thanks a lot!

Great shot! It does render differently. You're losing some fine details with the smaller sensor and it causes the scene to smooth out some. I slightly reduce the sharpness on my D810 files (mainly on adult shots) to get a similar effect.

Funny you say that, I have a D810 and a D750 and prefer the look of the D750 with the 105 over the D810.
I thought is was just in my head... I guess there is something there.
I really have come to like the D750.

Thank you very much I suspect there is a definite change in tonal gradients with "fatter" pixels and design of the sensor. The D750 has 6 um pixels I suspect it gives the more film like look. I noticed this a lot with the Sony A7rII compared with the A7s where the mere 12 MP (8.4 um) from the A7s gave almost a MF look to the shots. I never had the D700 but the shots I have seen appear very similar.

I agree you can soften the image, but I feel the tonal/color graduation is different. I made an observation that the sharp/detailed lenses on the Sony A7s like the FE 55/1.8 gelled really well with the sensor. I suspect this maybe similar with the D750.

I am glad that I purchased both the D750 and D810 as they are very different in the "look" and style of images they produce. Both are great cameras, as I have no problems switching between either. The other aspect is my wife uses a Fuji XT2. For her the D750 is still at a size and weight where is does not feel too obtrusive, without the 105 of course. The D810 is quite large and heavy for her, and I have another close family friend that uses the D7200, and she loves the D750 with the 58/1.4.

So have you ditched your Spider Pro setup and gone over to a Holdfast MM?

The secret is out: I cheated on the Spider Pro Holster. But this is old news, I've been shooting with the MM since summer
I cracked my pelvic bone back in 2012 during my trip to Hawaii and I couldn't walk for 2 months. So when I photographed weddings a few years ago with a simple dual D700 + 28G/85G, the weight wasn't an issue.
As my setup got bigger and heavier like D3s bodies and 24-70 + 70-200, weight on my hips became an issue during a 12+ hour wedding day.

Each system has its pluses and minuses but I prefer the MM over Spider
