Hmm, true. The 85 should be able to blow out the background just as much if not more in certain situations due to the ratios in smaller spaces, but in that case, I'd probably just use my 58 anyways. I like my 85, but it never became a staple lens for me (my staples are the 24, 58, 70-200, 200). Maybe the 105 might become a staple, maybe not.
We'll see this weekend! Going to test it out alongside my 85 and do comparisons!
I was thinking today, probably the best three prime setup ever would be 35, 58, 105. One on the body, two in the bag. Just perfect. As a wedding photographer that would cover absolutely everything.

You are mostly correct, my friend.
I cary a 28G, 58G and a 105E in my bag and that's all I need for the most part.
I do use other lenses and zooms but my all time favorite 3 are just those.
I don't like the 35, 85, 135 setup because there is no good 135mm yet.

As an owner of both lenses who tested both lenses in a soccer game, I'd say this: NEVER replace the 70-200VRII with a 105E.
Focusing speed is a joke on the 105E when compared to the 70-200VRII.

^^ Agreed!! I don't know why Nikon even mentioned sports in the verbiage.... I guess maybe golf or something where they aren't moving fast lol

The AF is not fast enough for indoor sports, whatever nikon marketing is claiming.
It's about as fast as the 85/1.4G

Great shots everyone! I'm holding out with the hopes that Nikon releases a 135mm in this vain soon. Can't bring myself to selling my Nikon 85mm 1.4G and they're simply too close for me to justify!

The 85mm f1.4G is garbage compared to this lens in every aspect. It's not even close!! There's no reason to own the 85 anymore unless you need the 85 focal length... even then the Zeiss 85 Milvus embarrasses the Nikon... it's a little early to tell if the 85 Art will as well.
Hi, I would like to introduce myself. Purchased the 105 F1.4 back in late Aug. and have been extremely pleased with the output from this lens. The body of work, being displayed in this forum is outstanding! You folks are forging new photographic horizons with this thing. Keep up the good work!
