That is a stunning shot Joe, wow!!!
F1.4, 1/8000 ISO64, this is what D810 is made for...

P.S. Angry Photographer should buy that photo from you to hang it on the wall of his living room, to remind him what that lens is all about...

Amazing talent!! Would you replace a 85 1.4g with this for its duty on family shoot? I already have 200f2 but sometimes for tight family shots with a strobe the chubby can be too much. And the 85 not quite enough,

No, the angry photographer would continue to whine with his whiny voice.

Thanks God Nikon changed the lens hood on the new 70-200. Elijah gets the joke. Lol

honestly I think I would and will. im not sure I can actually part with it though, the gear head part of me wants to keep my 85 1.4G lens but the 105 isnt that much longer than the 85 in terms of how I use it outdoors and I dont feel the 85 right now offers me any further value of the 105. I have use cases for my 58, my 50, my 35 and 20 but the 85 just feels like a black sheep now.

Sydney hosts "Sculptures by the Sea" each year at Bondi Beach and a few beaches along the coastal walk to the south. Can make for a stunning back drop. Many international and local sculptures show off their wares here and it attracts many visitors so, getting a people free photo is not always possible. Anyway, I thought I would just try to use the 105 f1.4E and see what I could get. Not always an easy task as you generally have to move back quite a bit more to fit the sculpture in and thus leaves it open for people to walk into the frame. At f1.4, ISO64 and bright sunshine, you are sometimes really hitting the limit at 1/8000sec!

Guys, this is a problem... Ryan texted me about this and I just shrugged about it.

But immediately when I got home, I checked my 105 and saw dust right inside of my front element... Anyone else?

No dust in mine yet, but there will be some eventually. It's just a hazard of actually using the thing as it was meant to be used, i.e. outside, and in the rain, etc.

This was first mentioned in early September, here's the post by Todd.

"Todd wrote:
So I have my 105mm and I can see some dust behind the front element. I then look closer with a led light...OMG! Dust covers the entire backside of the front element. And there is quite a bit of it.

Those of you that own one, if you did the same and looked at the front element with a light, is there also dust in your copy?? I realize there is "some" dust in all lenses, but there shouldn't be this much. I'll be looking at getting this one replaced."

Is anyone bothered by the "cat's eye" bokeh of this lens?
The Angry Photographer made me start to notice when bokeh isn't round. I used to really like the effect but I've started to be bothered by it for absolutely no other reason.
