I'd say that no one forces one to give up the chubby for the stubby but you. I have the chubby, best lens I own, but I can see that I will be using the 105 more. I wont be giving up the chubby, and when I want 200mm (or 280 ;-) ) it'll be the one I grab, but when I am just going out and may be shooting, or shooting indoors then the 105 is a better fit. I am glad it is as good as it is, and don't feel like it is, or is trying to steal thunder from the 200.
nextelbuddy - seriously man? It goes without saying but these pictures are stunning. Your talent as a photographer really is amazing. Well done.. as usual.
maybe it's my own fault I convinced ageless to dump his/her 135/DC and go with the 200/2. I still remember that thread. Now he/she's in love with the chub and I don't blame him/her. I will buy one again someday, the chub rendering is definitely one of a kind. I can totally understand owning BOTH though.... 200 f2 for local shots and 105 1.4E for travel. Basically it's like bringing chub bokeh without actually bringing the actual chub.
Can we close this thread- I'm broke after my 200mm f2 purchase (lens will be here Monday!), and this thread is going to cost me more money! Great work all!

I will eventually own the 105 f1.4 but can't imagine ever giving up either of my 200 f2's (vr1 & ai-s). They're both heavy and need space whIle shooting but they deliver like no other.
I'm curious why both? How do you feel they deliver in different areas?
Here's a dancer on a Maui beach.
She had an image in mind and we got pretty close to what she wanted.
Had to soften the image a bit - a little too much detail.
Nikon D810, 105mm wide open at 1.4, 1/8000, iso 64
Today's adventure - embedded with the fire dept. I took quite a few shots, but here's some random selects with the 105 1.4E. I wanted to shoot wide open (simply because I can, haha), so I used a 2 stop ND.
