Wow! Awesome photo, did you do anything in post for the sun flare / rays or was that just in the shot, either way it looks really cool.
Ok guys....enough already...this lens is overpriced, not that sharp, not that contrasty, just not special at all. You should all just go buy 85s and a 200 f2s. And this thread should be deleted permanently, and all images from this lens banned.
.....ok fine, I'll admit it. I want them all to myself. I'm frankly stunned at how much I love this lens.

The sign photo to me is pretty impressive. Just a hint of purple fringing, but very very good. Here is one at 2.8 and it's completely gone.
Nice photos Nathan. This last one looks great at f/2.8. The bride image is stunning. F/1.4 works great with this lens, however just because you can shoot at f/1.4, doesn't mean you have to shoot at f/1.4. The chalkboard is a great example of this rule. I've been under the weather so I haven't been able to get out with my 105, but I'm going on vacation next week. I'll get some then.

I agree about not shooting everything at 1.4, but it's hard not to with this lens! For that sign shot, I knew it would be a good test for CA. Just wanted to see how it would do.
And to be fair...I should've matched the exposures. I didn't do any processing to these before (minus my basic import preset of camera vivid and some sharpening). Here is what they look like with the one shot at 1.4 (or 1.6 which ever it was) at the same exposure of the 2.8 shot.

It's an amazing lens, I'm only nitpicking because of the price tag on it.

Yeah I agree with you about shooting this 105 wide open, it's an awesome lens. I think its because of the focal length. That mason jar table setting shot is a beauty! Love that 3D effect. I don't shoot wide open all the time, but I will more wide open shots with my 105mm.
To those who have both the 200 f2 and the 105 1.4: anybody now wrestling with whether to keep both? After lusting after the 200mm for years, I finally picked one up a year or so ago. Practicality ($) dictates selling the 200mm since 90% of what I do, I can now accomplish with the 105. (I seldom shoot sports, wildlife, or fast-moving action: if I did, the 105 wouldn't fulfill those needs for me). But having only fairly recently fulfilled the longing for the 200mm, I'm irrationally reluctant to give it up. Thoughts?
We where asked by my son for dinner and my granddaughter had this shirt.
"grote zus" is Dutch for "big sister"
So in a couple of months we'll be grandparents for the second time.

I was wondering if you were going to get one and start posting here. Nice samples. And yes, the 105 is amazing. I've been under the weather and haven't been able to get out much with my 105.
