To those who have both the 200 f2 and the 105 1.4: anybody now wrestling with whether to keep both? After lusting after the 200mm for years, I finally picked one up a year or so ago. Practicality ($) dictates selling the 200mm since 90% of what I do, I can now accomplish with the 105. (I seldom shoot sports, wildlife, or fast-moving action: if I did, the 105 wouldn't fulfill those needs for me). But having only fairly recently fulfilled the longing for the 200mm, I'm irrationally reluctant to give it up. Thoughts?
I debated the same thing, wanted the 200 F2 really bad for a long time, just bought it like 6 months ago, and now this lens comes out. I just came to the conclusion i'm definitely keeping the 200. Although for about half my shots this lens would do about as good, when i'm shooting a high school senior in a field or in water, that compression is going to make a pretty big difference. The urban shots, and up against barn wood, and on a porch, I think for those shots the 105 would look almost as good. But I remember shooting the field and water shots with my 85, and the compression of the 200 made a HUGE difference, night and day. So I may pick up a 105, because for certain locations it will definitely do the job, but those other locations, I need the 200. And since I have an 85 already, the 105 can wait a year or two.

It would be ridiculous to own an 85mm and 105mm, IMHO.
I say ditch your 85mm and get the 105, you will not regret it in any way. And add the 58mm to your arsenal.
I've found that the 28/58/105 compliment each other REALLY well. It's really a wider version of the 35/85/135 trinity...

I'm definitely ditching the 85 eventually and replacing it with the 105. Just a matter of when I get the money, the 200 set me back.

We where asked by my son for dinner and my granddaughter had this shirt.
"grote zus" is Dutch for "big sister"
So in a couple of months we'll be grandparents for the second time.
Congratulations Chris! ...and great photo(s) of your granddaughter and her parents!

Seeing as you are comfortable waiting for a period of time, you may really like the "rumored" Sigma Art 85 that may come out during your timeframe, or better yet a nice fast 135

Some action shots with the 105 from the past few nights. Very happy with AF accuracy, although AF speed is sloooooow. Good enough for panning though.

Next39, were those taken with a D5?
The football shots were with my D4s and the race photos were with my D4. I added the 'x' behind the D4 prefix to keep it 3 digits. I know, weird.

Great 3D "pop" in these! But also the other images on this page are very nice and show beautiful rendering and depth. Keep 'em coming guys!
Guys, you really should get a grip. Not only the 200G is rubbish, but now we have a duplicate rubbish with the 105E. Look how it rendered my image......utter rubbish lens
