Agreed, the Siggy 85/1.4 is "no joke". I find it to be an excellent lens, and in effect the "first" of the Art lenses although it was not so designated. Like the Art primes, it is, at the very least, equal to or superior to its Nikon counterparts, "IMO". The residual animus to Sigma apparently lives on in the minds of many.
IMHO, Sigma has been producing some fine lenses. I really hope they make an art 85mm. I'll be one of the first to pre order! Many of sigma's lenses are sharper than Nikon's comparative models. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing Nikon, I just think they need to add more ED glass elements in some other lenses to make them better. The 105mm f/1.4E is a smash hit, thanks to the ED glass. The sigma 35mm and 50mm are among the best in sharpness and clarity.
Cameralabs is doing nice comparisons. They are not yet on their site, but they are on Flickr already.
Guess which is which, out of:
Nikon 105/1.4E, Nikon 105/2DC at R2.8*, Nikon 105/2DC at neutral DC, Zeiss 85/1.4, Samyang 135/2, Zeiss 135/2 - all wide open.
* - when aperture number is less than DC ring number the sharpness is compromised.

I like it a lot! I've always wanted a longer modern prime next to my 58G, but 200/2 was just too much.
The 58G and 105E will finally compliment each other perfectly!!
But come on, realistically if you want the best of everything, nothing beats the 200/2.
But with 200/2, you will need to sacrifice weight, size, shape, money, dedication, etc.
The best stuff in life comes with hard work, lots of dedication, lots of money, lots of patience...
Below is how I chill with my 105E. Same situation wouldn't be possible with the chub.

I now have reviewed a bunch of my first casual shots taken with this lens today - and have no way to post them here for others to see, since a paid subscription is now apparently required for direct image posting (nor do I have my own website to link to). So, rather than posting them, I can only write about them: in short, I'm really liking what I'm seeing in the images shot with this lens. Great color and sharpness, and the bokeh is every bit as good as described by others here.
1/4000 wide open on base iso100 on a very bright day.
otherwise 1/8000 will be good enough.
there is no need for a 82mm ND or polarizer yet.
Current ones are all 77mm.

So many beautiful images posted by everyone.
Here are a few first day photos in Waikiki Hawaii with the Nikon 105mm.
All shot with a Nikon D810.
All shot wide open at 1.4.
This lens is amazing.

I wa wondering if you were going to get one and start posting here. Nice samples. And yes, the 105 is amazing. I've been under the weather and haven't been able to get out much with my 105.
