Having just bought the Sigma 105mm 1.4 ART for F-mount here are my notes to you people in this thread:

It is twice as sharp as the Nikon version. Having used the 85mm 1.4G, and the 105mm 1.4G side by side I can tell you the 105 is maybe 10-15% sharper in terms of resolution. The 105mm struggles to resolve over 36 megapixels. The 58mm is worse than the 85mm 1.4G. The Sigma resolves an insane amount of detail compared to the Nikon.

Bokeh balls are almost completely round.
Light, color, and contrast are rendered almost identical to Nikon lenses.

I don't think so. Unlike the entire Sigma Art line, Nikon 105 /1.4 creates a lively, characteristic, recognizable picture. Sigma Art is technically perfect, with a sterile and very boring picture, with a digital drawing, as if drawn in Photoshop. I consider discussions of Sigma Art in this forum thread inappropriate

I just ordered both the 58mm 1.4 and the 105mm 1.4. Both look absolutely stunning in my eyes and i am looking forward to getting them both!

Congrats! Throw in the 200 f2 VR and you have my trilogy.
I do shoot the Sigma 135 f1.8 Art when that FL's preferred.

As much as I would love to, I couldn't afford it in the end. Having spent close to $20.000 on camera equipment in the last three weeks. My camera budget has almost reached 0. 😅 another time perhaps, it does look so very tempting.

You chose well. While the 200/2 is indeed a special lens, it really isn't as versatile as either of these. But next time you have a spare $2500 or so laying around with nothing to spend it on, well...

As funny as this is he's from overseas (Denmark) and I'm fairly certain the (.) services the same purpose as the (,) in the USA. Still funny if you read it as $20.00.

Just picked up a FTZ ii because alexander ross, @GoroMajima and others insist on reminding everybody about great F-mount gear.

The cat's eye bokeh balls in the background, and swirley, nauseous rotation of the out of focus area (lens defect) in the bottom of her coat (lowest 1/3 of the image) destroy a perfect artistic image.

I think you're taking it to a level that most people never will and the criticism of the bottom portion might justify your non use of the lens because you'll know its there but its something so small it needs to be specifically pointed out and the image held to what seems a weird and arbitrary standard.

You hand holding that Sigma or using monopod ?

I just got the Nikon 105mm 1.4 so I can directly compare it to the 105 DC and the 85mm 1.4G after I start getting some photoshoots in.

I gently frightened the cats to get that "I'm a model" look, to test my newly acquired (but used) D850

Since my patience ran out, waiting for months to get the z9 I'd pre-ordered on launch day morning, I switched to Sony.

I just bought a used D850 to use with my 1 remaining Nikon lens. 🥶 Planning to try it for a few months.

Still missing Nikon though 🤷🏻‍♂️

Had my z9 showed up on time, I'd be shooting z7ii and z9. Not lucky 😕

Same building a few minutes apart, during and after sunrise.

Required cat picture as first pic with new lens.

780_105E 1.4 wide open by neopavlik, on Flickr

Early musings;

-noticeably heavier and bulkier than 85mm 1.4G and 105mm DC for the relatively short walk around.
-seems considerably more sharper than both wide open.
-bokeh seems slightly more lemony shape than perfect circles but shouldn't be a deal breaker.
-a slight swirl effect sometimes, stronger than I recall for either of the 85 1.4G or the 105DC but shouldn't be a deal breaker either.
-this particular cat picture gives off similar vibes to a shot I took of this cat with my 300mm 2.8 screw drive lens...small and sharp area of focus and then smooth roll off into backround obliteration.
