Man, that 105mm f/1.4E ED is impressive and I salivated over it when I first came out. Today having the choice to get the 105E or the 70-200E FL (both at the same price due to the sale on the 70-200) I opted for the 70-200 being it the lens I'd shoot more than the 105. Nonetheless that 105E is still on my high wish list.

it's the battle of versatility vs specialized tool. Every one has its own needs and a 70-200 2.8 is a great lens Congrats !
BTW I really LOVE the rendering of a 200 2.8 portrait
I do love portrait shots but it's not something I do. In fact I don't even have to gear (lighting) for it.
I'm more landscape and still life thus the choice to go with a more versatile lens.
Anyway that 105E is an impressive lens and I look forward to getting one.
BTW I do have the Nikon AF 85 1.4D that I'm starting to play with for my grand kids. Always did like the solid build of it with its metal hood. Images aren't bad either

It does, because this lens looks ugly on a Z + FTZ!
Took my daughter out for some summer shots. I quickly realized I can't shoot her the way I used to, she's 12 now. Changed the location and approach and she was instantly more comfortable.
I can't imagine shooting people with anything other than the 105 as long as space allows. This is at f1.4, I rarely stop it down.
