Sung, great portrait! Love how the 105E renders facial features.
Shot from yesterday celebrating Marisa's birthday.
This shot was not meant to be. Wrong f stop, flash did not fire but I still like the shot. It was pushed +4 in post processing.

Could this lens replace the 70-200mm for long distance/compression portraits?
Most definitely The 105E is a superb portrait lens. I also have the 70-200E and they make for an amazing combination.
Another shot from yesterday afternoon
Alex's makeup was done for a special shoot earlier in day with another photographer. Personally I do not like any kind of kid's makeup. In fact many photographers stipulate no make up until they are 16.
Among all the great pictures found in this thread, the first one of your previous post (#7) really shows a kind of rendering that IMO a 70-200 will not be able to give.

Whatever settings you had on the camera, This image has an old Kodak 400 look and feel.

It brings back nice memories.
Thanks Almass With the latest Lr updates now, I often use Adobe std profile and auto exposure as a starting point. It works really well and often emulates film like looks. It is very quick when you are processing a number of shots. Also interesting is that the standard sharpening with Lr now is 40 and no longer 25.

Thanks Charles! I could tell the Getty and AP photogs that I showed that one to were jealous I caught her in some good light, as the rest of her appearances at this venue were pretty poorly lit.
I don't know if anyone else feels this, but I have found in the limited amount I used the 105 f1.4 (I rented it for this event in LA and then ordered one to keep after) that the color rendition is somewhat different from other Nikon lenses.
It seems like the colors it produces are particularly pleasant for skin tones. That shot I took of Jane Fonda really only needed about a 200 degree color temp shift cooler (for my taste) and slight tweaks to black levels and contrast in LR. I am also finding the natural vignette from the lens looks great backed off to about 50 in LR in lens correction.
I think so far the 70-200 f2.8 ED FL and 105 f1.4E are my two favorite Nikon lenses. The 58 f1.4G is growing on me...

Love the capture of Jane Fonda !!! You are right the about drawing and rendering with the 105E as it seems to draw colors from nowhere. Very much like the ZA 135/1.8 another one of my all time favorites.
Alex yesterday was the model with Paulina Duczman for a master class held in Brisbane. I feel the link is appropriate as Paulina also uses Nikon
Thanks Joshua ! I used the AF-C and it locked the model perfectly as she walked with the eye focus. I put the camera in the 10fps mode and then just fired.
