Totally agrees, it just balances so well on a mid size body like the D700, D750, D800 and the D850 without the vertical grip. Our left hand just wrap around the barrel with our fingers falling right where the focusing ring is. Next is the pictures coming out of it look so good that bystanders behind couldn't resist coming forward to investigate what lens is being used on the camera. Wow! It is short but fat! 😀
Amazing pictures here but the last one posted by Thomasvdalen really makes me think about selling my 70-200 vrII to buy this lens. What would you think? (I'm a hobbyist with D800, 24/1.4G and 58)

I do have d800 and 105e [ own the 58 as well, which is a bit of a hit and miss with that camera].
I had the 70/200 vrii but now have the much improved 70/200 fl.
If you don't think you'll miss the versatility of the zoom the 105e is indeed a phantastic lens and a kind of gamechanger if you use it often wide open. The photos are indeed having a wonderful balance of sharpness [ though not clinical], surpreme bokee and rendering.
I would rather sell the 58mm and get something much cheaper in this area around 50mm and get the 105e if I was in your position.
I did never regret selling the 70/200 vrii for I felt it wasn't always as good as I did like it to be ( lack of sharpness and contrast wide open at around 200mm, especially for far distant objects).
You can easily crop quite a bit with the d800 + 105e combo.
It is just not very quick af-wise. ( try that out yourself in a shop whenever you have the chance to do so).

I've seen some of your pictures in the Canon forum. It is obvious that the quality of your pictures does not suffer from switching to another brand! Great work as usual

How fast did it find the eye on the a7riii?
For my shooting, it's acceptable so far. Far from lightning fast, and it will sometimes pulse as it progressively approaches acquisition. If I can make a video demo, I'll try and do so.
