I'm actually sending out mine in the beginning of august since I don't have a single wedding booked in august of this year (surprisingly)
I had an AF motor issue with my 200mm f/2.0 VR so I actually DROVE to New York to drop it off for repair.
It ended up being a 3 week repair. However, I was not an NPS member at that time. Since I am now, I'm sure it'll take much much faster but still, I don't want to risk it!
That's pretty cool that you could actually drive to New York, living that close is a convenience. Three weeks is a long time to be without a nice lens like that. Anyway I picked my 105 up this morning at UPS and needless to say it looks great. No more dust. They said they replaced the front element., I'm not sure why they did that, unless removing the front element breaks the seal or maybe they dropped it while removing it and had to replace it that way LOl, Anyway it's still just as sharp and clean as it was. I realize that there are good money opportunities with photographing weddings, i used to do them all the time but I have since then not wanted to do them anymore. Way too much of a hassle. You saw the photo of the dust within my 105, how does yours compared to that?

Wow... look at that dust. You have some big specks in there. A few of mine were big but the rest of them are pretty small but scattered all across the glass. I'm happy to say they cleaned it up really well and for whatever reason as I mentioned before, they replaced the front element glass but did not say why. I looked at mine in direct sunlight and could only see a few tiny specs of dust the deep with in the lens but other than that it's pretty darn clean so I'm happy now. After Nikon received mine, it was on a Thursday, they scanned it into the system on Friday and shipped it out on Tuesday. So I'm guessing if you get it there on a Monday they can probably ship it back out to you on Wednesday perhaps.
It's fathers day, my kids had to say yes to pictures. First outting with the 105 and I'm over the moon with it. A day in Chicago means quoting Ferris Bueller, "It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."
