I got sick of the dust in my lens, sending it tomorrow morning...
Nice photo... after having mine cleaned, yesterday I noticed a few specs of dust returned behind the glass, LAME! If it continues to build up, I think I'll request that nikon swap it out.
@Vcook, ah, yes, that's it! Strange little corner of Millennium Park with the neo-roman architecture. I'm in the Aon Building. BTW, gorgeous kids you have.
This combo may work well the next time I go water skiing. I usually shoot my 70-200mm on a D800e, but the 105mm even with heavy crops on the D800e were superb.
You won't stop until I buy this lens will you Mitch. Consider it done. Just hope my wife isn't home when it arrives!! It looks like a beautiful piece of glass, and lord knows about my NAS. Beautiful children, outing, etc. Glad there's not a 100th anniversary edition 'cause you know I'd be down for that. Fyi, I always celebrate a new piece of gear with a nice bottle of wine. What would suggest. A 100th anniversary bottle of Nikon Sake??

Sorry, Rick. Better to ask forgiveness than permission from your wife.
I know you will enjoy the new lens. Mine went very well during our ski vacation with a bottle of 2013 Scarecrow Cabernet.
Excellent shots. Wow, I'm trying to decide to purchase a 105 1.4 or update my 70-200 VR 2 to the new version. I realize they're completely different lenses. Just because the 70-200 is a workhorse for me and based on all the stellar reviews and shots I've seen, I'm leaning toward getting the new 70-200. I've rented the 105 1.4 a couple of times. Really like it but it's no where near my 70-200 VR 2 in terms of focus speed, accuracy. Anyone have both lenses?

I'm on the fence about purchasing this lens as well. I've got the70-200 vrII. I don't see enough of a gain in the new one to plunk down the money they are asking. I also don't have the 24-70, which is a bigger hole in my arsenal than not having the most current 70-200. I currently own the 14-24 and the 70-200 with nothing in between. So I'm trying to decide between the 24-70 or the 105. I really want the 105, but the 24-70 might make more sense.

Decisions, decisions! I do still love my 70-200 VR 2 but since I keep reading the new 70-200 FL is clearly better (especially wide open) and fact that the minimum focus distance is a full 1 foot closer than the VR 2 with much better magnification, I really do think I might sell my VR 2 and buy the new 70-200 FL. I have the 24-70 G and really loved that lens back in the day on my D300. But since I got the D800E, I mainly shoot with a 24 1.8 G when I want to go wider (and no complaints with that lens; it's clearly better at 24 mm compared to the 24-70 G on the D800E). Also have the 14-24 which is great on the D300 but haven't really used it as often on the D800E as I don't often need ultra wide for the subjects I usually shoot. If you're shooting lots of events though, I can definitely understand your need for a 24-70.
