Here are some pictures of my studio project.
I worked most of the summer building up this studio, in my garage under my house.
It was hard work, but quite fun anyway.

# 1 Breaking the old floor up, and removing all the old stuff.

Good job on your "new" studio. But, you are gonna have a lot of light, "bouncing" around in your "white box."

I'ts a little snug, but I've worked in smaller rooms.

You'll get used to it, and have a lot of fun.

Enjoy!!!

What are the dimensions of that room? Looks wider than mine, and mine at 7 feet wide is a pain to work in with more than one light.

Hi,

Here is my small studio:

http://www.innov8design.com/images/studio.jpg

It is so cramped to work in and not very practical for the sort of shoot you see in this photo. Also notice the underpowered portaflash lights in the foreground compared to my Bowens 500watt background lights, my lack of softboxes and miss-use of white bounces. Not my best setup

p.100 #13 · Re: Show us YOUR Studio

This thread has been such an inspiration to me.

My wife and I are narrowing our choices for a home purchase in the DC area. On our list, we've two townhouses and a detached house. All three would allow a studio to be built, although the townhouses' options would be somewhat restricted: one features 8ft basement ceilings, while other offers just another 0.5ft (width and length sufficient).

The house features a three car garage, the far stall of which I'd conscript for studio work. The high ceiling (vaulted) seems like a bonus. Then I realized that, unlike in home theater, where standing waves are mitigated by reducing the number of 90-degree wall/ceiling junctions, I'd never heard that a studio would benefit by including vaulted space. Would installing a ceiling be advisable? If so, then the space would really be the same as that of the townhouses. However, if you think the vaulted nature would better accommodate larger softboxes, mounted light arrays and reflectors, and otherwise not "pollute" the light, please let me know...

Thanks!

Ivy,

If anything the vaulted ceilings should mitigate negative effects caused by reflections from a ceiling. But even something as simple as a hanging banner can act as an effective light baffle if necessary. You'll be much happier with the extra head room.

Question for all of you: Where can I buy a large piece of plexiglass like many of you have on the floor for paper protection and for the reflection effect? What is the rough cost for something like that?

Thanks for any info you might have!
