Thanks for the advise Jeff... Do you have a studio pic with a wider angle to see how your set-up is? I have 24x30 to work with and trying to get some ideas. thanks!...... I see you have bogen expand system for your background paper, do you have anything running through the entire tube? I have that system as well but the expand only goes in the tube a foot or so, and my tube starts to sag in middle. any advise? Thanks again
Jason: I'm sure it will be a sweet set-up, I wish I had more space. Espically everytime I have 2 models and a mua or models 5'11"+
Patrick: Yes it is the Bogen AutoPole set up. I have only had it for about 3 months and have not had any problems with the tubes bending. I keep the black and white paper up and change the third role for an colors. I also have the j hooks up there and a 3/4"emt for doing the short rolls, cloth, or alum siding.
I will try getting some wider shots and post them a bit later.
Thanks guys! Glad to get some reinforcement that they're decent shots. These were shot to replace some earlier photos for the same campaign. I'm digging deep here, between the lack of experience, lighting equipment, and the fact that I'm working with food. I'm still not certain on the coloring on the corndogs; I need to keep playing with it some.
Just an FYI for anyone doing food photos, some vegetarian food comes out of the box looking cooked which makes it much easier to deal with in photos. Both the sausages and the corndogs were frozen when I started to shoot them.
Thanks for posting your setup Matz. Looks like you own some stock in PhotoFlex (Just kidding.) They do make some good equipment. All of my softboxes and reflectors are from PhotoFlex.
I remember a post by JohnE about some kind of carpet. Trying to find the post now. I only remember a line like this in response to him: "trying to explain to my wife that I need 900$ on carpet because I puchased a camera."
Here we go! It's this thread. "Just when you thought you were through with big purchases you have to spend $900 on carpet...because of a camera"

Just one piece at a time John! Do you have any experience with their "Starlites?" I've been told they are pretty good hot lights, just never see or hear much chatter about them. I loved your studio shots, and great to see your daughter in there working with the designs etc.. Tell her she does great work!
Thanks Tillman I completely looked over that. JohnE I seen that you turned a 3 car garage into your studio. I have about the same. How do you heat and cool? Do you have central air? I noticed a small ac unit in one of your studio shots, if you heat and cool with that isn't your power bill out of sight? Sorry for these weird questions I'm just stuck on all the "little things" that go along w/ the studio. Thanks
I guess I am kinda late into the game but I just finished my studio conversion. The room was formerly a sports bar themed pool/darts etc room. I painted the walls 18% gray and the ceiling white. I also ripped out the carpet and laid the Pergo floor. The lights are Alien Bees(1 800 and 2 400) and the backdrop support is from Amvona. I am pretty new to all this but am having a blast!!

Hi Matz. Nope, no experience with PhotoFlex Starlites. Always wanted to try continuous lighting, just didn't have the extra $$ to sink into it.
I have some experience with Starlites. They are color corrected halogens. The heat is dissapated a bit by the softboxes, but as with all continuous lighting, you are plagued by the AMOUNT of light you use. They are best used for product photography but if you wish to use them for portraits, stand by for 1/60 sec exposures at f/2.8 with the 500watt light.
The best advantage to continuous lighting is you see what you get, and that is a great tool to have, but for the cost of a Starlite 500 watt light, you can get two alien bees.
