That makes perfect sense. It would totally pointless to stick a big/bulky lens to a m43 body - as you are not saving any weight. You may as well just stick that lens to a 1DX, 5D4 or 7D2.

I don't think the 600 will be making that trip. I'm not that interested in adapting lenses. I'm more interested in the 300PRO.

Now the Canon 400/5.6 is another story. It is a wonderful match for the E-M1, Mark I or II (Metabones adapter). I got a very nice new copy a short while ago for a steal, and on my new Mark II it is, well, simply great!

Maybe it would be useful to create a list which E-M1.2 features are not available for which category of lenses. Something like this (I used Oly 75/1.8, PL 42.5/1.2, Oly 50-200/2.8-3.5):
Not available for Olympus FT lenses: ............. ProCap H, ProCap L, Focus BKT, video AF
Not available for Non-Olympus MFT lenses: .... ProCap H, ProCap L
Not available for Olympus non-Pro MFT lenses:
Other features may become unavailable depending on certain choices for other parameters. For example Eye-AF is off when Metering is set to Spot.
So, what is the f-stop of a 300/4 with a 1.4x tc on it?
I tried a Canon 300/4 (old one without IS) the other day, and naturally it focuses faster than the 400. A 300/2.8 would be faster still. Alas, AF systems all need light to work with.
BiF? The 400+Metabones+E-M1 is NOT a fast action setup, but that does not mean that BiF is out of the question. Depends a lot on the situation. There are a number of BiF shots here, some with even a 1.4x TC attached: https://www.flickr.com/photos/42162009@N04/albums/72157659863679710
I got the 400 so cheaply because someone bought it, tried it, couldn't manage it without IS and put it up for sale. Even though I already had the 400/5.6, I nailed it at his asking price so I could compare it with the one I had and then choose. It is a good bit better than the old one, so I kept it. In the end it cost me about €50 to use my trusty 400 for three years!
Hard to beat that..... I was lucky!
Don't get me wrong.... I would LOVE to have a 300/4 Pro!!
Nice house finch (male), K-H. If I may impose, I'd like to request some comparison images of the 300/4 and 300/2.8. When you have an opportunity to do so, can you please shoot a few static subjects with both wide open from varying distances?
Mark II+Canon 400/5.6...12/250 at f/8, ISO 400. I feel quite comfortable with ISO 800 on this body. 1600 is getting a bit scruffy, but still usable.
Definitely looking good, Dan. Curious, are you using highlight alerts and histogram to ETTR? I haven't been able to take my E-M1.2 out shooting wildlife yet, but around the house in less than ideal light, I have found that there is between 1.3-2 stops of headroom on the far right of the histogram. Pulling back that extra exposure in post really cleans things up nicely to where, IMO, ISO 3200 is quite decent.
Just placed an order for my RRS base plate. I didn't go for the $100 L-plate, as it's just absurd. What I'll do instead is just purchase a generic L-bracket, and anytime I want to shoot portrait orientation on a tripod I'll attach it beneath the RRS plate.
I have an RRS plate for my E-M1 & E-M5 II and love them both. Excellent products, although there's definitely a bit of price-creep that's taking place. The base plate for the E-M1 costs $65, while the one for the E-M1 II is $15 more expensive at $80, and for no real reason either, as the cameras are extremely similar in size.

Thanks Mitesh. What distances do you have in mind?
Around here I can go from MFD to 70 miles.
