p.94 #1 · Olympus E-M1 Mk II

Just received my ZD 150/2 lens. It's practically the same weight as the 300/4 PRO but it sure feels a lot heavier, and it's not as comfortable to hold - as it's a fat lens with a small/short tripod foot. The bokeh/blur rendering sure looks smooth and velvety! I will have to see how it performs against the 40-150 PRO at 150mm. AF motor is rather noisy if it has to travel some distance, but it's not so bad when you apply the focus limiter.

Mitesh, I would like to hear your thoughts and first impressions of the Big Tuna and Little Tuna.

Mitesh/K-H: While I was searching for a lens plate, I stumbled on this dedicated lens plate for the Little Tuna. Sure looks a lot more ergonomically-designed than the RRS L84 lens plate for this lens:

http://stores.4gdphoto.com/op-150-lens-plate/

There is a dedicated replacement lens foot for the Big Tuna too.

Thanks for the first impression and tip on the lens foot! Mine won't be here for at least another week as it's coming from the far away land of Japan...

Did you get any shipping notice from Olympus when they sent your lens? I haven't received one for the 300/2.8 yet.

Strange, I don't have anything. No shipping updates on getolympus.com either. I'll see if I can get someone on the phone tomorrow.

You have a 2nd chance to cancel the order if you change your mind. The Zuiko ZD 90-250mm f2.8 + TC might be a better (more flexible) option but I don't think they have any more of this lens with the 50% discount.

I thought you mentioned that but I didn't pay too much attention then. By golly, you are going for broke, aren't you? These 3 ZD lenses together weigh around 18 lbs!

Check out the 4th Generation Design website. They should have the replacement foot or dedicated anti-twist plates that you will need, and gimbal head if you don't already have one.

I'm heading to FL for a few days in May and only taking the Oly gear. Will be joined by some friendly FMers who will be bringing along a veritable arsenal of "Cannons". Should be interesting to see how the Olympus gear stacks up .

Do us all proud, my friend! I didn't fare too badly in Costa Rica with my lowly or slowly E-M1 ... against Joshua's Canon 400/2.8 L II + TC on his A7R II. But his keeper rate on the hummingbirds were much higher as the E-M1's AF-C is just pathetic! I can't wait to go back to CR again as I know the E-M1.2 will do significantly better.

Don't be afraid of those Canons Mitesh....I'll bring enough duplicate sets that you can always borrow a set if your Olympus falls short I'm more excited about trying the Olympus than lugging my Cannons around.

, better start a thread asking for advice on how to carry that all on a plane. Be sure to dismiss everyone's helpful input, though.

I'll buy a second E-M1.2 by then, so you'll get the full experience of shooting dual "Olympii" .

Yesterday I saw the first vultures of the season, a couple friends of mine saw the first hummingbirds. So the sugar feeders are already out. Unfortunately today it's raining and snowing.

For my Olympus orders I got an Order Confirmation on 3/23 and a Shipment Confirmation on 3/24.
The lenses arrived yesterday 3/27. No bad, not bad at all.

Mitesh, something must have gone wrong with your Olympus order I am afraid. Sorry about that.
The 300/2.8 is still listed in stock, the 150/2.0 and 90-250/2.8 are not.

K-H.

You must know that the E-M1.2 is simply no match against the likes of the Canon 1DX when it comes to BIF. But if you have good technique, like Tony Markle, you will do better than most of us!

K-H,

300/2.8 is showing as NOT IN STOCK and NO LONGER AVAILABLE. I'll call tomorrow and see what happened.

Of course I will. Anyone who knows Geoff knows he's always focal length hungry. Bet you a dollar the first thing he does is attach his 600 II + 2x TC to the E-M1.2.

Yep, Tony's pretty much debunked the whole, "mirrorless sucks for wildlife photography" myth.

I don't think the 600 will be making that trip. I'm not that interested in adapting lenses. I'm more interested in the 300PRO.
