Bobby, soft from shutter speed?
Thanks Imagemaster.
Well at least I'm trying even in the crap weather.
Tomorrow supposed to have full Sun and I bet no birds will be around

Day 5 for misty rain, that's 10 days of the last 14 with two days of Sun coming and then 5-6 more days of rain. Isn't it nice living in a rain forest!
Anyway still learning the new OMD-
Ooops, forgot the EXIF for you pixel types-
Olympus E-M1MarkII
LEICA DG 100-400/F4.0-6.3
ƒ/5.6 280.0 mm 1/200 1600 Flash (off, did not fire)
Thanks Dan,
Yes, horrible pic. I just deleted it from Flickr.
Which reminds. There are times like these where I'm really doubting my vision. It's
not getting any better.

Don't fret this stuff. I've been a working photographer for 25 years and I still bring stuff like yours home occasionally. All part of the fun. Especially with wild things, where you can spend weeks in the field and not get a decent shot. It's about being there and having a crack while the rest of us sit on our arses and tell you about your photos.
Now you know you need to look at the focus point a bit more carefully and keep your shutter speeds up a bit. Lesson learned.
Thanks Gordon. Means a lot. But (and I know an internet forum ain't quite the place to whine) it sucks loosing our physical abilities, and photography (or my stab at it) is showing my worsening vision.
But no one is shooting at me-could be worse!
See the real rub is that when I posted the pic I honestly didn't see how bad it was until it was pointed out.
So an irony in life-I'm blessed with gear and kit and slowly loosing the ability to use it.
Whine over

To those who are planning to get a universal L-plate, please note that the anti-twist type with the flange will not work AND the 4" base plate will cover the battery door - so you will have to remove the L-plate first to change your battery. And I have not been able to find an L-plate with a 3" base plate - which will allow you to change batteries w/o having to remove the L-pate first. Are well. If you need an L-plate now (as I do) you basically have no freaking choice.

Yeah, I was just going to post the El-Cheapo options ... but I would highly recommend the anti-twist types on B&H e.g. Sunwayfoto:

^that image says 1000 words Bobby but you know I'm in that quasi grey zone still using both systems depending on the venue. But last month when we flew to Panama for the Harpie I didn't even think about taking my 500; 600 would be way out of the equation for me. The DOii was my choice.
But don't bring money into the equation! Most of my friends/co-workers would grimace at even the $4500 Oly kit
Now back to the Oly menus that I hated long ago. Now that I've taken a serious stab I'm actually feeling kinda good about them and honestly loving the customization which is beyond any other camera I've used. I've even built a Myset profile to C1 for things that are moving---so an old doggy can learn new tricks!...Show more →
When you get a chance to iron things out, it would be great if you shared your C1 presets for the movers.........??
Ok here are some shots I took over the past couple of days. All images shot with auto white balance and in manual exposure mode. Shooting Info for the waterfowl images,t 1/2500sec, ISO400, em1 mark2 with the 300mmf4. Land birds were all shot at 1/1250 sec, Iso 200, 300f4. All images at f4.
Processed on my laptop so hopefully I haven't screwed up the sharpening or something!
Edited: I can see I compressed them too much for the upload, I'll try redoing it.
By mistake, I left the Eye Detect on when shooting birds the other day and Holy Cow it worked.
Here's a couple of examples. Please forgive the por quality of the images since this was my first hour out with the E-M1 II and I'm still working up the parameters that work best with the new VIII processor.
Shot from about 40yds throught the brances focus on right bird...Locked onto the eye in crotch of tree.
First shot with Eye Detect on by mistake, 5 shot cross focus mode locked onto the eye
Tried one through the leaves, just for the heck of it
Gary ask anyone but me! I'd get Imagemaster and Bobby just to name two quickly. I'm
still struggling with the exposure triangle!!!
Some maybe good news depending on weather--the she-boss just told me we're flying to Florida for a few days relief from the weather here--so maybe I'll get to BIF attempt while there.
Wow! Beautiful work. And eye focus with an animal=how cool is that!
I shot with a99ii this afternoon and guess what-small box on the eye of a Downy
20 feet away! The camera manufacturers are learning!!
one, I was glad the TC worked so well (to me) with that lens. Poof has been using it on the 300/4 when she has plenty of light.
Erne it was 1/1000.
Here is the EXIF
Olympus E-M1MarkII
M.40-150mm F2.8 + MC-14
ƒ/4.0 210.0 mm 1/1000 1000 Flash (on, did not fire)
Poof is still in the greenhouse so no extra eyes to critique, so did a dose of Sun and shutter help this one-
These are nice and sharp! Mechanical or electronic shutter?
