Mechanical at 15fps. I like the feedback I get while shooting it versus electronic.

Anyone here use the Custom Modes C1/C2/C3? What are your uses and settings?

Used 100-300 that I bought for $500 seems like a good buy.

Has anyone noticed better caf when shooting bursts (bif) with mechanical vs electronic shutter? My unscientific and tentative tests today seemed to indicate that subject to more testing.

Bobby woohoo finally! Mechanical. 10fps right? No 'heart' symbol.

Bob

I was rather impressed with what you had captured recently in Pro Capture mode.

This guy had similar results - most of these were shot in C-AF TR mode in ProCapture Low:

So I am wondering if Pro Capture electronic is better than C-AF mechanical.

What I need to remember is that you still have AF in Pro Capture IF is is low frame rate setting. Can't enjoy it with the PL100-400 but can with my 40-150/2.8 I think; but just to be sure I'm understanding, low is mechanical ??

Yep good lens. Had it at one time. Did you get the tripod mount available out of Germany for it?

I bought it but I'm not big fan of tripod use (I keep tripping over them).

Pro Capture (either High or Low) uses the electronic/silent shutter.

Anyone please critique my best guess on these

My C1 is for things that move fast. It's under constant evaluation currently but is like this:
ISO auto
WB auto
Vivid (for jpg gimping)
9 focus point
C-AF (no tracking)
IS on PL100-400 OFF
S-IS off
M-IS off
Card 1 RAW
Card 2 L F (is this the best jpg setting)
4:3 ratio
and other like 4K that dont matter for C1
Ctr-weight metering
C-AF mechanical 1/1600
Aperture wide open, 9 of 10 times I'll be using the PL100-400 so maybe F5.6

If any have better suggestion I'm all ears.

I was thinking of a C2 for landscape but haven't gotten far in that.
C3 would be portraits but I don't shoot portraits

I don't use a tripod very often, and would not waste my money on a tripod collar for a lens that size, when mounting the camera body would suffice.

What are the advantages of using the mechanical mode over the slow electronic mode? Is there some reason to use the mechanical mode?

And you loose any AF whether high or low since it switches to single, BUT it automatically goes into electronic shutter-something I won't have to remember.

I've not used it but it has to be so much better than 'harvesting' an 8mp image from 4k video since you're getting the whole sensor=kudos to Olympus again.

I believe Pro Captured L allows you to shoot in C-AF and C-AF TR mode.

You'll probably laugh but I like the sound of the shutter. In electronic just dorking around I'd fire off a ton of shots before realizing it.
I think....correct if wrong please....that mechanical's only advantage nowadays is for the video guys who don't want jello'ing ??
On my GX8 I relied on electronic because of the shutter shock; but I think (hope) Oly has addressed this.

Question on the EVF.
Something I should have addressed initially.
Where in the menus are the live view settings---so like in the Sonys when I make a change to any exposure settings I instantly see the effect.
