Wondering if anyone else is having this problem. Just received a brand new D500. Was out shooting today with a NEW Lexar professional SD card 64GB 1000X. Formatted the card in the camera. Keep getting an error message that "This memory cannot be used" blah, blah. Cycle the camera off and on, card seems OK. Recorded about 40 images. When reviewing and deleting unwanted images every now and then the camera seemed to choke and the error message reappeared.

Anyone else having this issue? Did I purchase a dud?

this is a known growing issue.

also don't try using non Nikon batteries. the result is a non functional camera while these are inserted

So, presumably Nikon is aware of the issue. Firmware fix possible I wonder?

we all stand by with baited breath not that i'm a real fan of SD but since its there i'd like it to work. they have my vote to swap it out to dual XQD. it will be resolved one way or another or they're going to eat a lot of camera bodies.

Same exact issue with my D500 and a brand new Lexar 1000x 64gb card. I filed a ticket with Nikon support and contacted Lexar who said it was Nikon's problem.

Add me to the list... I had this occur during my first use with the camera. I was shooting an SD while waiting for my XQD reader. I now have the SD slot set to back-up jpgs... I have not had problems since setting the card to backup.

Waiting for Nikon's solution... I vote for dual XQD too

Does it happen with sandisk SD UIIs? I've had it happen with my Lexar.

that I haven't seen any info to include that card. it seems to be isolated to the Lexar cards at this point. no one has mentioned the SanDisk product that I have seen

suggest keeping an eye on here:

Lexar always has issues. That why I use Sandisk (SD/CF) and Sony (XQD).

Spoke with a Nikon rep who is aware of this issue. Her fix? Buy ULTRA FAST SD cards. I was using 1000X/150MB/s Lexar. She recommended any card above 2000X.

sighing relief--got mine yesterday with a new Lexar 32 gb card and all is fine.
First tests-this camera rocks! I haven't had to change anything yet-straight out of the box with an OLD 18-200mm that hasnt been used in years

Read through the Hogan blog on the card issues. The problem with Lexar cards doesn't seem to so much be an "if" thing as much as a "when" thing. Battery type and level of charge seems to be linked to it, with the older Li-ion01 batteries dropping the mean time to failure somewhat significantly. So if you don't want to run into it use the newer batteries, keep 'em charged, and memorize the steps for getting yourself back in working order if (when) it happens.

thanks backdoor hippie. Appreciate the info.
I am waiting for new batteries-the store I bought it from advised not to use the batteries for the D750 even though they "appear" to be the same. I will play it safe and stick to the one that came with the d500 and pick up another one ASAP...it's not worth the risk.
