p.4 #1 · 1DX II with a Lexar CFast 3400

https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1434550

I have problems with 3 Sandisk 128CFast:
- First card with corrupt JPG (the very first shoot when test the camera in shop).
- First card has black screen with a yellow question mark thumbnail & corrupted RAW.
- My own purchased Sandisk 128 CFast has 1 corrupted file, which initially is OK but corrupted after a while.
- Canon replaced the original CFast + Reader (it is a reader and writer). But corrupt files keep coming.

I wouldn't be using these ebay CFast cards shooting a wedding. Way too flaky for me.

Thanks for posting this. I'm "glad" to see that the problems also exist with original SanDisk cards.

This begs the question, is 1DXII to be in fault? Is firmware update going to fix this?

I've heard of video cameras, Ursa, destroying CFast cards in the past: http://www.bmcuser.com/showthread.php?15497-Ursa-destroys-4-Lexar-Cfast-Cards

P.S.

I just had another corrupted file on a recent shoot... Same thing, file on the CF card was OK.
As for now, I would strongly recommend shooting to both cards if you don't need the speed of CFast card...

It looks like other cards are exhibiting the same problems...

Remember that a significant number of "bargain" cards from no name suppliers like you often find on eBay are counterfeit, and that they may or may not perform as well as real cards. If you care about reliability and long term functioning and speed of read and write, you may want to focus on suppliers like B&H or Adorama, or from Amazon listed as sold by Amazon. Do not fully trust the third party suppliers on Amazon that sell there, often at lower prices.

I am staying with Sandisk for my CFast 2.0 cards for a while, and will

I have not seen any problem images from my ebay 3400x yet (have 2 and the 64GB Sandisk bonus from Canon, but only have used 1 3400x card so far). *knock on wood*

I'm shopping for a second CFAST card for my 1DX2 ... Any thoughts lately on using these cheap eBay (Hong Kong) cards?

or

Any thoughts as to where to buy.... as in deals on genuine cards?

Many Thanks......... LuckyT

I got three cards, and have put thousands of shots through them. No issues so far.

I got two cards from eBay and I'm having an issue with one. Once in a while I'm getting a corrupted file. From the recent Canon's announcement it might be fixed with an upcoming firmware update.
Also, when I contacted the seller about the issue I'm having with his card, he asked me to send it to Lexar for evaluation/repair/exchange. Would person selling fake cards say this? At the moment, it looks like these cards are in fact genuine Lexar products and are under warranty

I'm going to wait until the firmware and if the file corruption persist, I will ship it to Lexar.

At the moment, it looks like one of the eBay sellers run out of its inventory while the other one raised his prices, again...

Many Thanks for the replies

I ordered 3 of the 64's @ $58 apiece ... That should keep me going for a while.

cheers

I forgot to mention, that you can ask for lower price. You can also do the transaction via PayPal, outside eBay, for even lower price.

Deborah, where did u hear that canon had problems with lexar cfast cards? i could not find anything on internet, all i found was the fact the people are/were yusing the lexar cfast 3400x with the canons.

Apologies, I missed your question. I saw a reference to it back in February when canon said only two specific models of Sandisk cards had been approved for compatibility. Someone commented that the Lexars had issues. If I find the reference, I'll post it.

I have used both Sandisk and Lexar cards for years with overall good results. I won't touch Transcend, however, after having two cards fail within weeks of one another.

Maybe, if he was stalling for time to prevent you from filing a claim with eBay/PayPal...

He also gave me an option to send it back for a refund. I chose to wait for a Canon's firmware update since this seems to be the factor here. If this doesn't help I will either send it back to him or Lexar. I haven't decided yet.

I'm using a 256GB CF card from ebay and so far I had zero issue.
I did record more than 2 hours worth of 4k60fps videos without any issue (I did fill up the 256GB multiple times). Also did take around 2000 RAWs.

The funny story here is that the only Canon approved ones (Sandisk) are causing more problems....

Of course there is a risk with discontinued cards but so far I can't complain
