Yeah we have a couple community parks as well but none with a bird blind. That would be kind of a cool idea. I think we kinda do the same thing when it's a bit slow.
This Junco was on the back end of my backyard fence, about 50-60 feet away.
I was at Conowingo Dam today. It's been pretty quiet there the last 3 or 4 weeks but there was a good bit of action today! Most are heavy crop (this was about 125-150 yards) and I was playing with my shutter at 1/640 and handheld, and though maybe not tack sharp, pretty good considering some are close to a 1:1 crop. Pfft and everyone there will tell you minimum SS is 1/1600 for eagles lol.

Rubbish. I have had both Olympus and Sony ML cameras grab focus on subjects behind reeds. They were also able to maintain focus-lock on birds on birds flying behind reeds or branches.
I finally spotted a Great Grey Owl.
Well, actually my wife spotted the owl, I just slid the truck off the side of an icy road and got a few pictures...
