Why not send it in for calibration under warranty? Unless what you believe that wouldn't fix the issue you speak of. These pics have me contemplating picking one up though!
Because it's the second one. I get exceptional results from my 100L and with image stabilization, I don't lose much with the 2.8 max aperture. The only thing I miss is the flexibility of the zoom. Basically I don't have the patience to send off my lens and camera for calibration when there are first party lenses that give me better performance out of the box.
It's a gorgeous lens and is extremely well made. Unfortunately, mine haven't performed either time.
After lots of back and forth, last week I sold my trusty Nikon 70-200 2.8VR and bought the Sigma 50-100 to go along with my Sigma 18-35. I was finding that 70mm was a bit too long for chasing our seven year old twins around. Also our oldest daughter plays DIII volleyball and softball so I'm very excited about using this lens next fall for VB. It should be a very useful focal range on my D7200 shooting from mid-court. Obviously I lost quite a bit on the long end so I am looking for a used/refurb Sigma 120-300.
Here's a couple pics taken last Friday afternoon through the chain link fence at my daughter's ballgame. Sorry about the harsh lighting-2:00 game time.
just got the combo 18-35 and 50 100 for my nikon d500. tested the 50 100 briefly and super super sharp wide open with +1 adjustment via d500 AFTune. the lens is a bit heavy so i put the min speed at 320.
Thanks, Glenn. I'm going around looking for "excuses" to use this sucker.
Got it primarily for rodeo under the lights. On FX my normal range was 70-145
or so with the 70-200 f2.8 VR II. DX (D500) gives me 75-150mm FOV so it should
be a blast gaining a stop (and a third) Add to that the insane AF of the new body
and the 'monkey be hoppin' up and down more often than not.

Any chance you've dropped it on your D810 yet TM? I'd be curious what the vignetting looks like with 1.2 crop.

Just did, Josh...there's barely a tad at 1.2 crop.
(It should be noted: I'm using a shorter 82mm SenseiPRO metal hood,
plays great with the B+W Kaesemann Cir Pol when needed)

Those are REALLY nice Will! Seems like this lens would be great for band photography in small bars. Cannot wait to see you brewpub results
Appreciate it, Glenn. Wife and I will be hitting a few up over the weekend
3 of the 4 were tent deals outside and lit up like
the Vegas strip. Managed this grab in a lil place next to
the weed store. (I just happened to be in the neighborhood)
