Today I did some further testing with my sample #5. It is indeed much better than the other 4 samples I've tested, but still not great in the corners.
A direct comparision with the Batis 18mm and Loxia 21mm showed that both Zeiss lenses have a much better corner sharpness (both wide open and stopped down) and a slightly better center sharpness.
I will therefore return sample #5 and give up the idea of getting the CV15.
I am so sorry. CV should be ashamed and embarrassed for their QC. I have never heard of a lens and lens designer/manufacturer with such a poor showing tor the release of lenses.

Do you have any sharpening applied on this image
My one fear is the alternate like the 16-35 which also some issues. Bobu wrote:

Hi K-H,
Of course the WATE offers 3 focal lengths and everything in between. The WATE offers the Leica look while the CV 15III may show more the Zeiss look.
Thanks Rich. Sorry for answering this late. Yup, it seems that way.
By the way for the WATE have you tested the lens on a Kolari Modified A7 series camera to see if the corners will hold up at f5.6?
Hiep (alias hiepphotog) and I took landscape comparison shots of the WATE of my stock A7r2 and a Kolari version 2 modified A7r2m.
To our eyes the A7r2m images are a definite improvement over the A7r2 images. When pixel peeping one can clearly see a small improvement in the corners.
My eyes also see an improvement in the images from both cameras from f/4 to f/5.6 to f/8 for all 3 focal lengths.
F/5.6 is clearly better than f/4. F/8 seems just a tad better again and is optimal, f/11 is very similar, then diffraction sets in more heavily.
Also, have you used the LR adjustments for the WATE profiles for the different focal lenghts to see if there is an improvement in the moustache distortion at different focal lengths? I have never used my for architectural subject matter at this point, only for nature.
Thanks.
Rich
Rich, currently I prefer using Capture One Pro 9.1.1, that unfortunately doesn't seem to have Lens Profile Corrections for the WATE. I sure haven't found them.
But I also use LR 6.4 with Camera Raw 9.4 and CS6 13.0.6 with Camera Raw 9.1.1.461.
I believe the two Adobe Camera Raw versions deliver very similar results.
To answer your question, yes, I have enabled the ACR 9.1.1.461 WATE Lens Profile Corrections for the different focal lengths and seen a significant improvement in the moustache distortion for all 3 focal lengths. But the corrections aren't perfect.

I really got this one pretty darn nice the clamp worked a charm. First step I covered where I do not want to cut with gaffers tape to protect the lens. Than I used 3 empty 58mm filter threads which are used as a back stop, protect the filter threads and obviously protect the glass. i do this to protect the lens from me making a fatal mistake. Than I used a hose clamp put it into position to protect where I don't want to cut and also use it to line up exactly where I do want to cut and use the clamp as my guide . I just pressed the Dremel right to the clamp and proceed to cut the petals

after grinding it down ever so slightly with clamp still in place than I removed the clamp painted it and it is drying right now. Now remember i cover this cut with a 58mm to 67mm step up ring. You never see the surgery done

When I put the step ring on you can't see anything from the sides at all. Im just showing the step up ring its still drying so did not want to screw it all down. Than I add a empty 67mm filter ring and now Choppy II has a new hood and push on cap. When I want to use a filter i just remove the one extra empty ring. If I want I could go 58 to 72mm and use 2 filters very easily

Iphone pics go sideways. Oh well anyway this I think the First E version Choppy II. Tested by our famous corner man Fred Miranda and Choppy inspiration by Guy Mancuso.
Long live Choppy
BTW SK Grimes can do this as well and Im sure its even prettier as they have far better gear than Dremels.

Fred really it takes about 20 minutes, its not bad at all. Next time Ill remove the gaffers tape and use paint tape before I paint . It bleed in a little on the sides but wiped right off
