Anybody know how sony's new 70-300 doing for landscape? I am not entirely happy with Sony 70-200f4 I had. Plus extra reach to 300.
I don't know the answer to that but with 100mm of extra reach in a smaller package for a slightly cheaper price I think it would be quite the feat if it were optically superior to the 70-200f4.

Me too i consider it to be a more prosumer lens. BTW i hate that word but its a industry standard

I just hand-held tested my sample (-III VM on A7RII) on a cloudy, low contrast day here in Seattle and the corners were not as bad as I've seen in some of the samples, but not quite as good as "choppy". Definitely some astigmatism in the corners, but only really noticeable at 100% viewing. CA is there, but fixable. Can't say I nailed the focus, due to the relative insensitivity of turning the focus ring and changing the sharpness at infinity (this case ~1 km). I was backed off from infinity by a little bit which seemed to be the best point of focus in the center.
When we get a proper sunny day with some contrast I will throw it on the tripod and take some real test pictures and post.
I will say that upon inspection of some of my hand-held hiking pics taken last summer the far corners were a tiny bit smeared, but nothing that detracted from the overall image since there was nothing of great importance in the corners.
Fred may have mentioned this already - but my corners don't appear to improve or worsen upon stopping down, which is a bit strange. I suppose it could be a cover glass issue.

Ha....Choppy is sort of a unicorn right now. If I had that magical unicorn, then I'd consider ditching the ZE 15. But as of now it seems as though it's a mythical beast that might be out of my reach. So even if Choppy wiped the floor with the ZE, my VC 15 doesn't appear to be Choppy (again though, I need to take some time to test the lens I received today.)

OMG, I was ready to ship back little choppy but can't find it anywhere. I think I lost it!
Maybe it's in my camera bag cozying-up to the Loxia. I will check..

Today I received my E-mount Voigtländer 15mm lens. Sadly it looks like Fred's lens or even worse in the corners.
Here are some links to full size images for your own evaluation:
All images shown were shot with aperture f/8 and the same sharpening settings as posted by Fred above. If you need to see any other apertures just let me know (wide open until f/11 are available).
At the moment I have no idea what to do.
a) Return the lens and try another one.
b) Forget about 15mm and just get the Batis 18mm.
c) Send the lens to Voigtländer for some adjustments.

I believe he had a price of $500 before but there was no taker since everybody was anticipating the FE version to be as good, if not better . I actually considered his but I don't like the chopped petal hood since I don't use filter anymore.

while the apparent fact that the minority of these lenses have great corner performance, i'm still trying to remain optimistic that either a) i'll get a good one b) i won't CARE that i don't have the best corner performance
generally nothing of importance will be in the extreme corners, and if i create an impactful enough photo, people won't pixel peep at the corners and notice.
generally stuff won't be viewed at 1:1 anyway, and since this will primarily be a landscape lens, it's generally going to be sky in the upper corners

Nothing is more frustrated than a mush corner in landscape shot once you nail everything else down with money invested for traveling to the location.

Difficult decision.

Returning for another seems not a particularly promising (unless you bought several). I'm interested in C; I'm wondering if sending the bad ones to Voigtlander could get us all into Choppy territory...

Wow Boris, my M-version of this lens performs a lot better (also on the A7RII) than this! You should definitely return it.
I will definitely not keep it. The question is: would Voigtländer be able (and willing) to adjust this lens for corner sharpness if I would send it to Voigtländer instead of returning it. I would trust Zeiss to do this with a lens with bad performance, but I'm not so sure about Voigtländer.

I guess it depends on how "mush" it is. I wouldn't be generally upset by the samples that Fred has provided, but the more recent samples by Bobu I would tend to agree with you.
and also what comparable lenses are available in a similar price point with similar size and weight.
