I just came back from a trip to Viera Wetlands: is one of my favorite places to go shooting. What is great about this place is the variety of wildlife you'll be able to see if you are patient and get out of the car. Alligators also find it as a very nice habitat for them These are some of the pics I got: one of each bird I saw. I realize the post is a bit image heavy, but that gives you an idea of how many birds are visiting that place.
These were taken with a 7D II paired with either a 400mm. DO II +1.4xTC or a 100-400 MkII. I never got to use a 500mm. I had taken since the 400+1.4xTC did a fine job.

I am putting that place on my radar for next winter! Really good variety, with so many quality IFs and interesting species (especially the least bittern). Excellent set Socrate! Very enjoyable (with a tad of envy tossed in ).

No blinds, Mike All open area. Viera wetlands, aka Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands, is a water treatment facility open to the public. a gravel loop one-way car-driven or hiking roadway through 200 acres divided into four cells of approximately 35 acres each, plus a central lake: some of the most spectacular wetlands.
I used the car to move from one area to another. I always get out of the car and walk around and wait for some wildlife to show up. This is how I got the shots of the Sora, Least Bitterns and American Bittern.

Wow, Socrate, what a fantastic set! The images themselves are great, but what really stands out is the diversity of species, the elusive ones (I would love to have a bittern or two on my own hard drive), and so many great IF shots. Next time take me with you!
