Dave, do you have a copy of DXO's Viewpoint? I'm thinking it could get those trees upright in the first shot and you would have a real winner.

Tim,
Not familiar - more functionality than Photoshop CC perspective corrections?

Beautiful series indeed Dave !

zhangyue wrote Zhangyue - there are a few options for hotels. I stayed at the Xihai which is not cheap but they have excellent rooms and buffet breakfasts which stay open late enough that you can get back from shooting dawn +1 hour and still get filled up for the day. www.hsxihaihotel.cn

Evening meals anywhere aren't so great but the Panyunlou Hotel (10 mins from Xihai) has a reasonable choice (Chinese) and much better food prices than the others (rooms are cheaper too). Beihai and Shilin are the other hotels in this area (Huangshan isn't one mountain but a range - there are 3 peaks of similar height in this location) and are similarly priced to Xihai (RMB 2,400 for 2 nights inc. tax, meaning 2 sunrises and 2 sunsets) but I've no idea how good the rooms/food are - both are better located for dawn shooting (Xihai is a ca. 45-60mins hike and be sure to plan to *get there* around 03.00 otherwise the top spots (only good for 2-3 people) are gone) being 15-30mins hike from most, though both are further away from the other 'top' sites and for sunsets.

Make sure you take the cable car up from the rear of Huangshan Mt (as approached from the airport direction, there are 4 in total), called the Taiping Telpher, as otherwise you have a few hours walk to get to those hotels from the other cable cars - it's 15 mins from the Taiping Telpher to Panyoulu and Xihai hotels.

Last cable car up/down is around 16.00. Don't believe the taxi drivers at the airport who want a fortune to get you there (asking ca. 400rmb) when they tell you it takes hours to get to the rear of the mountain - I found a minibus to Gantang / Taiping (don't stay in Tangkou or Tanjiaqiao as they are on the wrong side of the Mts) and it took just 1 hour and ca. 20rmb) ! You usually have to stay a night since the single flight a day from Shanghai won't get you there before 16.00 - that was 80 rmb for an OK room by the bus station - before ascending the next morning.

Dave,
Beautiful images, I travel to China often and have been to Huangshan 3 times and only had similar light for a very brief moment once. I would say your were extremely fortunate . Great job with these they were a pleasure to see.

Dean

Hi, Kevin, I really appreciate the info. I haven't check in FM landscape board for a while. Last time during winter, Xihai was closed and I stay at BaiYun Hotel. I drove from Suzhou to there which take about 4 hours. I will see if I can squeeze another visiting next time visiting China.

These are beautiful. My favorites are #1 for it's awesome lighting and the rock detail in in #3. It leads you in, to maybe finding a route up to the top.

These are breathtaking. The first reminds me of an idealized frame from a movie, such beautiful light, texture and mist. Thank you for sharing!
