Does anyone know for a fact if the new LP-E19 1DX2 battery is required in order to record at 4K60, or if it's just a nice-to-have with better capacity? I understand you need a CFast card, but my focus is on the battery.
Thanks for anyone with empirical evidence at this early time

I thought the only difference was you drop from 14fps max to 12fps max, no?
Well, given that there is no definitive answer to it, and that it may be interesting to know, I figured I'd ask. One month and zero answers later, I answered my own question.
Nobody over the years successfully answered the question about the difference between the 1D3 and 1DX batteries, as there's not even a drop in the frame rate. Of course with the 1DX2 they had to physically change the battery so that it won't charge on older chargers. I wonder how unavoidable that was...

I may be wrong but I think I got that fact off of one of the Canon 1DX II videos.

I can't bear the suspense - what was the reason for making the batteries physically different? Do spill the beans
Doesn't answer why they had to change the battery pins in such a way that only the new charger can charge them. I have three of the old chargers which are now useless for travel etc.
Just got my new 1Dx II's today and looking at the charger they took away the small port to plug in a 12 volt cord. Looking through the manual it does not show a accessory to convert to 12 volt. It does not show any accessories for the camera. on Canon web page has listed
"Battery Charger LC-E19
Two battery packs can be attached. It takes about 170 minutes to charge one LP-E19 battery pack (140 minutes for LP-E4 or LP-E4N). It plugs directly into AC outlets. Not compatible with the Car Battery Cable CB-570." Cost $540.00
