I'm sure they'll be great. I'm pretty sure that all of us have our fair number of junkers to get to the few we keep. I bet you'll have a lot of fun with it!

Thanks for all your comments. I am following an ebay sale of 17-40L right now. If I get it in the price range I will get it or else go for the 15-30.

Thanks

What's your price range? I don't know what 17-40/4's are selling for on ebay, but here on the buy/sell forum they are going for $600 in mint condition. I just bought one last week and absolutely LOVE this lens. It's the first truly wide angle I have purchased for my 10D and I haven't taken it off the camera since it arrived. The Sigma 15-30 has been selling here for around $375. I looked at both and decided to go with the 17-40 because for me it makes a better all-around lens and the build quality, focusing, and handling are excellent (including the full time manual focusing which the Sigma doesn't offer). The images I have been getting are terrific. Here's one of my first from this lens:

Oops! Just saw your post above. I hope you like the 15-30.

I took the jump and bought the 15-30. With the money left, I bought the ST-E2 so I can get to play atleast with a single flash unit for the time being.

Thanks to everybody for taking out time and inputs.

The Sigma 15-30 is a great lens produces nice sharp pictures. I had the lens for a year and replaced it with the 17-40 because I wanted to use filters on the lens.

Here is my gallery of pictures taken with the sigma Both can produce very nice results.
