p.2 #1 · Any image quality difference, D600 vs Canon 6D?

Much better DR and slightly better high ISO performance on the D600/D610 sensor compared to the 6D. It also has quite a few more bells & whistles. Pretty hard to beat it for overall value these days. The D600/D610 is also dust & weather sealed to the same degree as a D800/D810.

Lots of other little advantages of the D600/D610 too if they apply to your usage
- Dual card slots
- Higher FPS
- Bigger buffer
- Better meter
- Much more sophisticated AF system (39 pts, 9 cross type vs 11 points, 1 cross type)
- Spot metering at every AF point
- Built in Flash

I think you will find cleaner images of the Night Sky with the 6D. It is very good for Aurora and night images.

I am just shooting portraits in flash/natural light. Just wondered for that.

If you shoot portraits...I prefer Canon 6D over Nikon D600 every time
... But after I get also Nikon D810 >>>all problems I have with Nikon colors disappear ( now I get colors like with Canon, but with much better camera Nikon D810

I will wait and see what Canon and Nikon do next and than you will have a lot of good options

Colors can easily be changed with post production software. At this point I am agreeing with everyone that the DR of the D600 surpasses getting better colors out of camera from the Canon.

The whole "colors" thing is largely a myth. Not only is it extremely subjective, but it depends on the RAW converter, JPEG settings (if applicable), etc. As you say, you can change colors to your liking using a custom profile with a single click in post production, it's a non-issue regardless of what camera you're shooting.

I shoot a 6D, and I make use of it's advantages- namely better AF and IQ in lower light, as compared to the D6x0. However, for portraiture, the D6x0's still primitive but usefully more flexible AF system will allow more freedom of composition, assuming that 'natural light' isn't a cave .

Outside of AF point spread, all other things are fairly equal body to body; I'd say that Canon certainly has better ergonomics and especially so between these two cameras, but that only gets in the way if you let it.

I agree with you for the most part but in raw, honestly the difference from ISO 100 to 25600 in DECENT light is so close its not a huge deal.

There really aren't many differences between them (I currently use the D610 and spent a fair bit of time checking out the D600 and 6D before finding the D610). As has been mentioned, the D600 is better at lower ISOs and the 6D is better at higher ISOs. The D600 is built better (in my opinion) and has dual SD slots vs. the 6D's one, so that's an advantage for some. With a few extra megapixels the D600 also may have an edge in some applications. Personally, I find that the camera used really has no effect on skin tones if you edit your photos, but Canon raws tend to be more magenta than Nikon's, which can be slightly green. It would be worth trying CaptureOne if you're concerned about skin tones, it gives a very unique and warm look to people by default.

Sure; the real challenge in low-light is AF. If that's not important, then I'd lean toward the D610 just for sheer AF flexibility, let alone base ISO advantages for landscapes, if you're in mood for single-RAW HDR shots .

(I say that to say this: while there is certainly a benefit to greater base-ISO DR, it's not something that's always useful, and even when shooting landscapes with my 6D I don't run into issues that a little more DR would fix- when I need more DR, I need more DR than any commercially available system can provide and I'm using exposure bracketing)
