p.1 #1 · Tall bride & Short groom - posing?

Okay so I have a really tall bride (over 6 ft) and a shorter groom. Looking for posing ideas for this couple. Things to do, things to avoid, things to try. Any tips would be helpful!

Thanks in advance.

Get a chair or a blanket. There's going to be a lot of sitting going on.

But realistically, they're very aware of the height difference. Trying to represent them as something they're not in the image is just going to come off either as insulting or as if they're trying to hide it in some way. See what images they have of themselves online. If it's like a fat girl pose where every image is from some awkward angle then maybe they do care about it. But if it's not, then don't let it bother you if it doesn't bother them.

Unless they ask 'Hey, make the groom taller!", the're aware of the height differences and you should shoot it as such. Have you talked to them about it? Imagine if you shoot every way you can to make him look taller, and they get the images back and are wondering why they look like they do..?

Ditto to the above. They are aware of their height differences, and unless the specifically mention being self conscious about it, I'd leave it be and just photograph them like you would any other couple.

The thing to be cautious of IMO is that taller brides frequently hunch themselves over (leaning neck or otherwise) to reach a face height similar to the shorter groom, and this often produces undesirable body contours/angles for her (i.e. can make her look weird or deformed, vs. graceful/stylish/etc.). In plenty of perspectives, I personally feel this should be paid attention to and her pose altered (usually her straightening her spine or something else, etc.) or the camera angle adjusted to correct/hide that.

I think sitting positions can make it both easier to balance this kind of height difference (most men have longer torso:leg ratios) and also allow shooting slightly from above, which can be used to hide/ignore some of the height difference. Alternately, perspective angles that favor him, her sitting down with him standing, or anything that doesn't put them on relative equal footing (whether literally or just from your viewpoint) pretty much seems to work to not draw out the height difference.

Then of course there are plenty of shot ideas that can take advantage of her being taller, sometimes deliberately and/or humorously so.

But before all of this, definitely find out how they feel about it in advance and work with that in mind.

Agree to the above suggestions.

For the poses, I will ask them to sit down for some photos to make the height difference less visible:

Still, they will want some photos of standing up. I think it is fine because it is the way it is:

Thanks for the tips and suggestions.

And YES, the bride and groom brought up the height difference to me. Her exact words:

"we don't mind that I am taller than him but maybe if it is not painfully obvious in photos? We don't mind working with you to make this possible."
