Maybe someone at Sony drove it to your office!

Congrats, that's great news.

OK, I don't have time to do my usual testing before my trip, but I did a quick test on my replacement camera and the lens looks well centered. It didn't seem as perfectly centered as my first copy, but it's definitely good. When I get back from my trip, I'll take my time and take a little more detailed look at it.

Jeff - how are you testing to see how well the lens is centered?

Unfortunately, I don't have time to take actual test shots before I leave on my trip Wednesday. So,to do a quick down and dirty test I put a Zeiss star chart on the wall, take care to make sure my lens is at the exact height of the center of the chart and the camera is parallel to the chart with the chart centered. Then I use magnified view and focus peaking. By focusing and defocusing you can see a lot. I look at how symmetrical the peaking pattern is, how symmetrical the lines on the chart are going in and out of focus and how round the center of the target stays while going in and out of focus.

Fred, suggested some other good ways to test for centering in the other thread.

Terry - if it's any consolation, I believe I got my camera one or two days after it was "processed." I could be wrong, but it seemed like processing meant 'time to overnight the replacement.' The operators in the call center don't seem to have any knowledge about what's going on - they told me another 7-10 days right before I received it, so I wouldn't get too freaked out by that.

Well. Thank fully you were correct. Just got my camera delivered. Despite Customer service not knowing anything, along with no email or tracking number. Just glad I happen to be here when Fed Ex showed up. Silly how much I missed this thing.

Mine was finally shipped today and will hopefully arrive tomorrow. I posted my frustration on Sony's FB page (Canada).

"Sony,

As follow up to my previous post - I've never been so dissatisfied and underwhelmed by a company's sense of urgency. It would appear that when it comes to Sony support, one hand has no clue what the other is doing. Either that or you just don't really care about your customers. After being told repeatedly that my replacement camera would be shipped out "overnight" to me upon receipt of the defective unit, I've now been waiting for almost 5 business days. I received a call yesterday from someone who said that the replacement had been ordered from the warehouse and should be delivered tomorrow (today) or the next day depending on when it's released. No tracking info was provided. I called Sony support today to follow up and they had to "escalate" the call to get a tracking number. Well it was shipped this morning so it won't be arriving until at least tomorrow. So assuming it arrives tomorrow that would be a total of 7 days with no camera. Seems like sort of a long wait for "overnight". From your call centre reps not being armed with the latest information to loading docks not being available to having to jump through hoops to get basic information - this has been a comedy of errors.

I don't need to be contacted at this point as there's really nothing you can do for me but please, please, please take a look at your internal procedures/communication for any opportunities to improve this process moving forward. Other return/exchange experiences I've had with companies such as Amazon, Apple and Fuji have been far more pleasant and reassuring that they're doing everything to earn and maintain their customers trust."

Funny you should say that. I seem to have bonded with my little RX2 more so than with other cameras I've owned.

Mine arrived today.

It was sent back to me with an incomplete address, I saw the truck coming from a distance and was out there on the road to greet him so he guessed it was mine and stopped. whew.

Cheers, Monty

Thank you all for the information! It helps me to understand the situation while anxiously waiting. I just got my replaced camera back today.
Here are some details for my case: I got a second day delivery label, shipped on Monday (1/25), arrived on Wednesday (1/27), called twice to check the status, was told on Friday (1/29) that it would be around 2/2. Then I got a Fedex notification on Friday night, but not overnight shipping, it was Fedex Home delivery shipped from CA. It arrived this morning.
While I was waiting, I shifted back to my 5D2 for weekend shooting. It made me miss RX1RII even more. Only one factor, I do think 5D2's color is better (I was using 35mm 1.4), especially for portrait. Then I found I could apply 5D2 color profile in capture one to RX1 images. The skin color looks better.

Yep, me too. I'm still very fond of the a6000 and the lenses I have for it but the RX2 files have so much to them I can do a lot with them still. It's the ultimate pocket companion.

Just want to give everybody an update on my replacement camera.

Having received the 2-day shipping label on 1/24, I shipped it out the following day. Checking the tracking info, I saw it was delivered on Wednesday 1/27. I did call all follow-up with sony, as I saw many of you were already doing so, and presumed I would get my replacement camera towards the end of last week or early this week.

Seeing in the above thread, that several had returned their camera on my same timeline, and received their replacements earlier this week. I called sony yesterday, but they were unable to provide an update past that they had received my camera, but no further action was recorded. I should get an update WITHIN THE NEXT 3 - 6 DAYS!!!

I started posting my issue on Sony's Facebook page, which they quickly removed, and received a response that they would look into the issue, and to only contact them via private email. i ignored that and continued to post commentary on the FB page.

This morning, I received a tracking # for delivery today. It was shipped late yesterday, presumably following the escalation.

I encourage anybody thats still waiting for an update from Sony, to stop sitting back and start contacting them.

Paul
(Am I pissed!)

Understanding your frustration and the inconsistent communication (something we all experienced), I doubt many can object to the way Sony has handled this. They discovered the light leak issue on their own and immediately offered a free and speedy replacement.

Yes, speedy. Just about everyone had a two week turnaround. In my case, it was 13 days, of which 11 was in transit. Compare that to other manufacturers (brand L) whose users are accustomed to being without their cameras for months.
