FWIW. They told me that it would take between 24 - 48 hours before they would ship a new one. When I quizzed them in more detail, they confirmed that would be "business" hours. By my calculations, that's 3 - 6 business days.

Unless you are joking, that's about the most ridiculous explanation of 24-48 hours I have ever heard.

If I didn't really want to take my camera to Mexico next week, this would be comical.

I just spoke to Sony Service again and asked about the status of my return camera. She said the order was placed yesterday (they got my camera on Monday) and that my order "has been assigned their highest level of authority." I asked what that meant and she said that I could expect a call back in 24 to 48 hours. I asked to speak to a supervisor or someone in the group that was processing my "order," and was told that there was no-one else I could talk to.

My advice at this point is to take several deep breaths and possibly one or two alcoholic beverages before attempting to call Sony service.

I give Sony an A+ for bringing the problem to light and agreeing to replace all possibly affected cameras no questions asked. I give them an F for execution and think it is a shame that their handling of the camera replacement will cost them the good will that they would have otherwise received from the exchange. I really feel mislead because when I originally called to process the replacement I was simply told to ship them the camera and they would overnight a new one as soon as they received my old one.

Well now today I get a different story, I just got off the phone after being told "that particular camera model is not in stock so it will be a few more days".

So I told him, "yesterday I was told a supply of cameras arrived at your shop ""this morning"" and I was promised delivery today or at the latest tomorrow" and that my BS meter was now vibrating, he said he would do some escalating and let me know later today.

I asked him if he works for Precision Camera and he said no, he works for Sony.

Today is my eighth day without the camera and I'm starting to sense it may be quite a lot longer.

Shoulda known, shoulda waited....... Monty

Just received the replacement today. I sent my 'recalled' camera overnight mail to them (at my expense) last Thursday. So turn around was one week. Checked the new serial number - all clear. I sent them the camera + box + accessories and they sent me brand new everything in a new box. They're on it, it's just taking around a week.

Not easy to part with my Sony and a mixed bag in turnaround time - so I will patiently wait before sending in for a replacement.

No joking Tariq, but that is consistent with their 1 week turn around.

We'll see.

I don't want to be negative, but I'm just thinking out loud.

I'm hoping the quality control on these cameras is really good and that my replacement camera will have a really well centered lens, like my original. But if it doesn't, I may be at a disadvantage compared to sending it back to B&H, which has a no questions asked return or exchange policy. It's possible that if I don't think the replacement camera has a well centered lens, Sony may exchange it again or it's possible they will look at it and tell me tough luck because it's in spec.

I'm optimistic that the new camera's lens will be well centered, but you never know. Knowing what I know now, if I had a camera with a serial number that needs to be exchanged, I'd either wait a while to see how things work out for with us beta exchange testers or work through B&H if that's an option. It never occurred to me that I could do the exchange through B&H until someone posted it here.

Why I even call I'm not sure. Was told again that it is being shipped out from CA, they are waiting for the shipping number. I would be happy but since I was originally told it would be overnighted once they received mine (which they did on Monday) I am not counting on it. Reconsidering any future purchases.

Calling Sony Service regarding this exchange is a waste of time.

I must say, I really appreciate this forum. Being able to share my experiences, frustrations, concerns and having a place to vent is very therapeutic.

Just to make you feel better, I've tested 2 RX1RII cameras for lens centering and was very impressed. They were both perfect. I believe there is a much better QC compared to Zony lenses.
However, if your new RX1RII has an issue, you won't be able to replace it. It will have to be sent to service and who knows what would happen then...

My RX1RII didn't even get to their hands yet and it's scheduled for Monday. Consider yourself lucky!
Meanwhile I will continue shooting with my A7RII + Loxia 35/2.

That is what they told me. Take it for what it's worth. Which at this point is not much!

Just curious. Where did it ship from?

Shipped from California. 25 min drive from my house in LA. Not sure if they are trying to deliver from places that they have stock local to each consumer or if it's just a coincidence that they're so close to me. Question you all might know the answer to. I'm sure this applies to my A7rii as well....

In the settings tab, under menu 3, there is the option to turn "disp. cont. AF area" on or off. So that applies to the display...

But right under that, there's an option for "Phase Detect. Area" - which can also be turned on or off. I'm ASSUMING that also means a display setting? Or does turning that off make it so the camera only uses contrast detect? (I wonder, since there is no word for "display" as there is on the setting above.)

Sorry to use this forum for this question - I figure it would be an easy place for an answer since everyone has the camera and since we've all been waiting for our shipments.

All that does (Phase Detect Area) is turn on the brackets that shows you where the Phase detectors are located.
Disp.Cont.AF Area just makes the small Phase detectors visible or not in Continuous focus mode.
